No, I was admitted a few days ago and live in Indiana. I plan on attending Stetson, and would for sure appreciate you guys posting something about it.

Re: Stetson Admitted Open House
I attended the admitted student open house this morning and it pretty much solidified everything for me. The other prospective students, faculty, staff, and student ambassadors were really nice, helpful, and informative. Of course, the campus is also beautiful. I had a great time, they treated us all like gold, and I really could not ask for more.

I'd also like to hear other stories of how the open house went. I was supposed to attend but didn't get to the area until after the open house was over. It was a beautiful campus though and the one staffer that I did run into was very helpful. I got a chance to spend the rest of Saturday looking around the area and I really like the St. Pete area.
On the way back from Florida, I stopped by Mercer Law which admitted me also. If I was deciding on campus and location alone --- Stetson wins, hands down.

It seems like this is probably a case of somebody talking about the incoming 1L GPA median. I highly doubt the new 1L curve would be going from a 2.9-3.1 to a 3.4 without there being some commotion on campus about it. Why does it matter anyway? Employers will look at your class rank, not so much the raw number of your GPA. The only time I think of a lower curve hurting students is when certain schools have a curve that is well below a 3.0.Barbie wrote:Just posted this in prospective stetson thread but is it true the new curve is 3.4 for 1Ls? Barbie - There was no mention of a change in the curve. They strongly suggested that grades are "normalized" but we all know what it really means
2.9-3.1 is what I recall them saying
As far as the open house goes... It was absolutely fantastic! I'm pretty much sold on Stetson. Barring the unlikely acceptance off the waitlist at Wake or Richmond, I'll be in St. Pete come August!
BTW Darren Kettles has to be the friendliest person I've met

I'm telling you that it's about class rank, not raw gpa. Also, while individual professors can have a curve as low as a 2.9, some of your professors will likely have above a 3.0 curve and some will have below, so it balances out to a 3.0 usually.
You're right that Vandy doesn't rank. However, this would seem to me to make it hard to determine where you stand in relation to your classmates, and therefore where you should go with your job search. I like having rank.

I posted this on the Class of 2014 too, but I just got accepted today so I was not at Open House.
Is anyone here looking for a roommate?

"If we can talk the student into coming to take a visit at Stetson, then we have them."
Stetson Law's Campus is easily the nicest in the state.
Does it sound fishy to anyone else? I guess it just exudes of the excuse of bad schools that rankings don't matter. Stetson Law is the 1st law school in the state of Florida, founded in 1900. The name has a decent amount of recognition in Florida and has a decent ring to it. It is the only law school in the Tampa Bay area (one of the largest legal markets in the state). The campus and facilities are top notch. It all sounds like the makings of a great law school choice. But why is it only barely ranked? Before the new rankings change, it wasn't even ranked. For this price, the median private sector salary of only 55k is a death sentence for anyone who pays in full. I'm just not sure I can say its going anywhere.
On the other hand, FIU in Miami is. This year's class will only be 120 full time students with an average GPA of 3.6 and LSAT scores of 157. This is on par with schools like UM. FIU also only costs 16k per year. Meanwhile, FIU grads will benefit from higher Miami market pay.

Re: Stetson Admitted Open House
This is cross-posted in the other Stetson related forums.
I do a lot of real estate work and wanted to offer a contact if anyone was looking for rentals in the area.
His name is Bryan and he works for Smith & Associates in St. Pete, and his cell is 727-688-3652. I gave him a heads up that I was putting his information on here.

Higher Miami market pay? All I've read about Miami's market is that UMiami grads can't even find jobs. Ugh; I could go on, but really, is there a point to this post or are you just trying to paint Stetson as a bad picture for those either already committed or seriously considering it?
(BTW, before the new rankings...? They were already around the same stats; that information isn't new - it's just assigned an official number now.)
