visiting a school that isn't a real choice?
So WUSTL's admitted student's day is on the 25th, I'd be able to use the $200 travel stipend. I have an offer from GW much better than the one from WUSTL. I emailed WUSTL to see if they'll increase, but I doubt it, the scholarship they gave me was already better than I ever expected. Would you visit WUSTL in my situation?
edit: didn't explicitly say it: so unless I were to get a larger scholarship, I would not attend WUSTL
also thought I'd add a poll
also thought I should mention that cost of visiting is not an issue

Don't make such bold statements. Once you see STL's exceptionally average ladies, you might change your mind.
Unless you are a lady. Then, screw it.
Also, if you feel like taking a trip, go. Why not, right?

I think it'd be a cool place to visit, but I wasn't sure if I'd feel out of place visiting the law school, sitting in on a class, meeting the other applicants (who I presume would actually have WUSTL as a real choice). This is kinda my main hang up.Ford Prefect wrote:Also, if you feel like taking a trip, go. Why not, right?
Also, isn't marvin the best character from hitchhikers? also, don't all tv/movie reproductions just suck complete balls?

if you go, make sure you tell everyone that you're not seriously considering wustl because of a much better offer at another school.2011Law wrote:I think it'd be a cool place to visit, but I wasn't sure if I'd feel out of place visiting the law school, sitting in on a class, meeting the other applicants (who I presume would actually have WUSTL as a real choice). I visited UCLA even though it's my last choice, but I was already in the area. I wanted to give UCLA full consideration before withdrawing.

Eh. They don't have to know. Marvin is fantastic, though I'll have to disagree with you on your next point - the movie was great. Absolutely fantastic cast.2011Law wrote:I think it'd be a cool place to visit, but I wasn't sure if I'd feel out of place visiting the law school, sitting in on a class, meeting the other applicants (who I presume would actually have WUSTL as a real choice). Hey, I'm taking a free trip to Nashville, even though chances are 99.7% that I'll be in Los Angeles or Austin in 6 months.

$200 probably won't pay for all your expenses.
Don't get me wrong: I bet I'm in the top 1% of TLS in terms of using ASWs / paid visitations as a way to sneak in a subsidized vacation, but you usually still end up paying a good bit out of pocket.
So if the school's in NYC, DC, Cali, etc., sure, but if it's not someplace that's worth a $200-discounted vacation anyway, then no.

I guess it's also important to ask if OP is flying or driving. If driving, St. Louis has some good food if nothing else.flcath wrote:$200 probably won't pay for all your expenses.

Re: visiting a school that isn't a real choice?
I live in Miami, so the $200 wouldn't even cover the full cost of the plane ride there and back, but I was saying that cost of visiting isn't an issue b/c my parents are putting me up until law school and they can afford to send me visiting a few places.
lol, I just wasn't sure if it might be in bad form to take the travel stipend and do all that other stuff, but actually I think I might visit.
Should I already be wearing a GW LAW t-shirt? And tell people how much better D.C. is than STL?fatduck wrote:if you go, make sure you tell everyone that you're not seriously considering wustl because of a much better offer at another school.

The cast was actually great (I assume your talking about the one with mos def), but I think they really blew it with a lot of other stuff.Ford Prefect wrote:the movie was great. Absolutely fantastic cast.

I read an email from an HLS admitted student to the admissions office that basically said he had no intention of attending HLS but if Harvard paid for his ASW trip, he would attend the ASW nonetheless

I'm from hardcore flyover country. It's a great place to raise kids. It is also an objectively shittier vacation destination.Ford Prefect wrote:How dare people even live in fly-over country.flcath wrote:$200 probably won't pay for all your expenses.
