Stanford ASW 2011
I didn't see a thread for this anywhere--let me know if I missed it--so I figured I'd create it.
Who else is going? The travel subsidy is quite generous, though I'm still going to have very substantial out-of pocket costs. Compared to Boston, finding reasonably cheap accommodations was a dream!
Is anyone else bringing a spouse/friend/significant other? My girlfriend has never been to CA and wants to look at the housing situation, so she's coming with me, but she won't be at most of the actual events. If anyone else is bringing anyone, I'd love to arrange a play date.

If I make it back to the US for ASWs, I will be there. Will be staying with a current student or a friend (non-law grad student)

Hey All! I am heading out for it from the East Coast. I plan to stay with a current student - a friend (well, someone I know.
) from college. I can't wait. The whole west coast thing is all new to me and looking at pictures on the internet just don't cut it.

Re: Stanford ASW 2011
Hey guys, congrats on your admission to SLS. I'm sure you all have wonderful choices.
I recommend bringing your S/O with you, especially if s/he will move here with you. Plenty of people come with S/O, so you shouldn't feel like you will be the odd couple.
I recommend going on the housing-tour with your S/O b/c if they're moving here with you they should have a say on where they want to live. When you're doing the boring law school related activities they can go wander around campus and get a feel for it.
They can visit the art museum, the gym, the book store, and then meet you up for the ASW lunches (yes they'll be well fed as will you). Oh and you should let your S/O know that they can get a courtesy-id and get in anywhere you can and use all the facilities of Stanford University (for free).

That's all good to know, thanks! Yeah, she's moving with me and leaving her job, so she absolutely has a right to be there.legends159 wrote:Hey guys, congrats on your admission to SLS. I'm sure you all have wonderful choices.

Do you know if there's an organization for spouses/significant others? Harvard sent me info on one, but I didn't see one for Stanford.

Hey, I am trying to RSVP for this but the site requires a username & password...where did we get these? I can't seem to find them in any of the emails from SLS...did they come in the mail packet?

IIRC they come in the mail packet. You can always email Faye or someone from admissions and they'll have it to you soon.birkenstockmarket wrote:Hey, I am trying to RSVP for this but the site requires a username & password...where did we get these? its in the packet. you get a username (which i think is just your first and last name) and then an ID # that is on the inside flap on the folder - should be a white sticker.birkenstockmarket wrote:Hey, I am trying to RSVP for this but the site requires a username & password...where did we get these? I didn't even know this thread existed. Is everybody staying with a student or at a hotel?

Welcome. I'm trying to stay with a student...A hotel is a bit too rich for my blood. What are you thinking?

Does anyone know how to go about arranging to stay with a student?

I would have, but I am coming with my SO, so I opted for the cheaper of the two hotels Stanford blocked for us.CrashingTheGate wrote:timmna wrote:I didn't even know this thread existed. Is everybody staying with a student or at a hotel?

Yeah, the hotels were relatively cheap compared to some other places I've stayed. Staying with a student seemed too awkward.

There's no formal outlet for this, but the class is small & close-knit enough that one forms organically & informally without fail quite quickly.Vertigo963 wrote: That's all good to know, thanks! Yeah, she's moving with me and leaving her job, so she absolutely has a right to be there.

I will be there, but only on Sunday and Monday. Got a quiz bowl tourny in Chicago the day before I have to attend. Expect an undergrad with a dead brain to be wandering the campus.

watch out.

Also, I'd be happy to organize a TLS meet-up, potentially on Friday or Monday. Here's the form:

I didn't realize there was a deadline for the cheaper rates at those two hotels, and I waited too long to make a reservation. So I'll be staying at the Stanford Guest House, which I read about in the housing guide they sent out. $109/night and free Internet, if anyone is making last minute plans.

Looks like it's going to rain on Friday, but clear up for Saturday and Sunday. You've been forewarned.

I'm pretty sure there is a formal law students with spouses group, although as one previous poster said, the small size and supportive student body lessens the need for support groups.

Re: Stanford ASW 2011
I'm not sure if this info is already out there, but here is the student code to get discounts on the supershuttle to go from SFO/SJC to SLS ($6 off)
Code: T9X58
on http://www.supershuttle.com/
making the ride $20 instead of $26...save SLS some cash, right?

Seriously? What are you waiting for?
Now there's a charge.
