Lewis & Clark ASW

Post by JMACD » Thu Feb 10, 2011 1:49 pm

I just got accepted to Lewis & Clark and they offered to reimburse up to $400 if I come to ASW. I am leaning towards going, but it would mean taking time off and planning a flight up there, and I'm not sure if it is worth while to attend the ASW. I have pretty much decided I am going to attend Lewis & Clark, so the ASW would not really be selling me on anything, but it might be a nice chance to get a trip to Portland for close to free.

Any thoughts on how important it is to attend an ASW? Or is it better to just take a trip up there on a weekend that works better for me and take my own tour of the school? How informative is an ASW (particularly at Lewis & Clark)?

I don't really know the answer, but I'm definitely going. (But, I live here). But, if you've already decided you're going there, I'm not sure if it's worth the trip. It would be to decide between schools, but if you've already made up your mind...
The only thing you'd probably miss on a self-guided tour on a weekend is sitting in on a class, so I guess it depends on how important that is to you?

I'll be going. I've already got my plane tickets. If anyone is interested in getting a hotel room together maybe, or hanging out before the events, pm me. I'm planning on getting in early on Thursday and leaving on Sunday night.

I'll be in on the 2:55 train on Thursday and am hopping on the 6:20 out on Friday. So if anyone wants to hang out before/after the alumni meeting or after the school visit, PM me. I'll be at the Modera.

I'll be there, so I'll hope to see you guys there! There are some good deals on hotel rooms and cars for the weekend there - I was surprised how inexpensive a lot of it is.

Do you have to email them about reimbursement for the trip? I'm looking at flights, and that alone is going to be $600. Plus $100ish/night for hotel? Yikes!

Arrrghghghrgh, they're out of money. That is going to be a hell of an expensive weekend, if I go. :(

Posted this in the acceptance thread also:

If anyone wants to cut down costs for the preview weekend, I'd be down to share the room that I booked at the Modera as long as you're not a serial killer/creep (although we ARE on TLS... ). 24 / male / room only booked for Fri/Sat nights.

Shoot me a PM if you're interested.

Is anyone bringing any guests to the events? I'm feeling like it'd probably be better to fly solo. Thoughts?

I think I misread McNulty's post. Haha. Are there any girls going to ASW, and if so, would be up for sharing a room?

I'm bringing the wife since she will be a big part of the decision. She will come to the dinner but not the actual class preview. Are you guys bringing additional people to both events?

I'm leaving the misses as home because she already knows Portland fairly well (and can't get the time off work), but if I were bringing her I'd definitely take her to the actual class preview.

Haha, no worries. Only was saying I'm a dude because I'm sure that girls wouldn't want to share a room with some random.

Exactly. You're probably perfectly nice! But no. :) So far it seems like everyone else who's going to the ASW is a guy.

L&C is >50% female, there has to be another girl going! Woo-hoo, split room rates ftw! Who's with me?

I'm a girl and I'll be there, but I live here so I don't need to share a room, :(

I am bringing my fiance to the dinner/reception thing the night before the class day, but not the actual preview day. Only because he has to work, though, I don't think it'd be bad to do so.

We should all like, plan a spot to meet up at some point on the preview day, it'd be cool to 'kind of' know some people!

Don't worry I'm in the same boat... So how does everyone feel about the tuition increases? (up more than $6,000 since I received my acceptance letter in January....)
