Illinois ASD April 8
I wanted to create this so we can talk about possible things to do, maybe meet a couple TLS people, and possible find people to share the cost of hotel.

If you're looking for stuff to do, be sure to ask Dean Pless. And Definitely go to the mixer at Guido's @ 7, so you can hang out with current students (the email I got said this was 4/9 by the way).

flying out there is pretty expensive, plus hotel, rental car, etc. does UIUC offer anything to offset the cost of visiting for the ASW?

Nope they dont... I'm activelly lookign for current law students that are willing to host. The trip there is going to cost me almost 400 if i dont find someone. It is a lot of money, but I really like UIUC. I think at this point im even willing to share a hotel room with someone (two beds of course) so lower my expenses.

Yeah my costs are looking like at least 300$ for a flight alone (Round-trip), rental car and hotel for at least 2 nights, plus my dad wants to come as well so double the flight bill for the two of us. For the 2L student above, or anyone else for that matter, do you know of people that go to UIUC w/o visiting? Currently its my only school offering any merit-based $ and is closely ranked with my other schools so their scholly offer will weigh heavily against the other schools.

I really wouldn't worry too much about $400 here or there when deciding between schools.
You're about to drop a very real $100k+ on law school, not to mention 3 years of your life. Spending 1% of that total being sure that you choose the right school is money well spent. Remember: the differences between each school are MUCH more than just abstract numbers. Each is a little community with distinct culture and personality; you can't get a feel for how good a fit the different places are without spending a little time there. E.g., Given the numbers, I didn't expect to pick Illinois when making the final choice between WashU, Minn, and U of I. But, after visiting for a few days, things became clear. I'd have been miserable at UMN, no doubt about it...

I'll be there as well. I wasn't too happy about getting the "homework" for Dean Smith's mock class though. What the heck? lol.
Also, I heard that people were dressed pretty casually at the last ASD in March. What do you all plan on wearing?

Everything was a lot better than I thought it was going to be. Champaign was bigger/better than I expected, the apartment offerings were awesome and cheap, and the current students seemed very 'real' and social human beings who seemed happy about life. The ARC was incredible!! And its proximity to the law school is a huge plus too.jackalope11 wrote:Sooooo.... What did everyone think???
I was worried I'd come out here and dread the thought of being in such a small college town for 3 years....but it's exactly the opposite!
Anyone else....??

I agree with the posters about the ASD... Really all of the people had great information, and I appreciated that there was not a great deal of "dead time" where we were just sitting around waiting for something the happen. I just put down my deposit! See you guys in the fall!!!
