Re: BC/BU ASW
Would anyone that attended the BU ASD last Friday be willing to fill me/us in? What was your impression? How's the library? Is the Law Tower really as terrible as we've been made to believe? Thanks.

The professors seemed pretty great, and the career services was very forthright. Current students seemed very happy with their choice. There was a little program fair, and it's clear that hey have a very wide range of programs available (sorry I'm not being more specific, but I didn't have enough time to learn about them all). The school is in a great location (right at the BU Central T station) and provides a great view of the river and downtown. You get this view in seemingly every classroom, which is wonderful.AllBusiness wrote:Would anyone that attended the BU ASD last Friday be willing to fill me/us in? What was your impression? The downside was that it was a horrible, cold day with low, thick clouds and constant rain, which made the tower look even worse than I could imagine. I know it is "brutalist" architecture, but it was brutally ugly. It looks like a 35-year old Soviet Prison that's been neglected since the Berlin Wall fell. Other than the views, I found the facilities extremely disappointing. Even the law library was subpar compared to most of the other schools I've visited (Stetson, Case, W&M, Emory, Chapman, Wake). I guess it's not bad (per se), but it wasn't a selling point either. My utilitarian side was kindof pleased by the substance sans style of the building, if that helps....
The other prospective students were all pretty cool as well.

I went to the BU ASD on the 26th, the building was actually nice. I'm not even going to say it was OK, I loved it. The facilities were great, the library was smaller, but had more of a cozy feel because of all the skylights and chairs. At Fordham the library was small, but felt cramped. The surrounding campus outside the tower was gorgeous. Any points lost for the older interior of the building were made up for by the fact that nearly every room I went into, whether it was a classroom, office or even one of the bathrooms, offered 180 degree views of Boston.
The environment was what really sold it to me. Everyone there was happy and congenial. I'm not just talking about the ASD volunteers (because they have to be), 10 of us would pack some poor unsuspecting law student into an elevator and he'd still be like "so, are you guys having a good time?"

I am leaning towards BC but both schools seem great. Congrats everyone for getting in!

Unless I get off the waitlist at BU, BC will be my home for the next 3 years.

Why do you like BU better? At the BU ASD, I talked to at least 10 people who felt the exact opposite.sissyclark wrote:Unless I get off the waitlist at BU, BC will be my home for the next 3 years.

Probably for the exact same reason, except opposite from you. At the BC ASD, the kids seemed to have a little complex against BU, not just because they were on BU's waitlist, but generally because BU is ranked higher and I think it gets to the kids. I think that kind of edginess it's reflected on this website too.
I'm on the outside looking in, but I would like to not be in boston after I graduate, and I think BU does a better job getting kids from out of state back to where they want to go. Also, I like BU's diversity, it seems like they've got a very open feel to lots of people, whereas I felt BC was more uniform. Of course, that might be a small sample of that day.
Plus, maybe I'm too into the rankings but BC being 29 doesn't make me feel too good. I think it's better than the rank, but it would be nice to not be so close to the low end of the top 30. Also, I've been on a really nice campus for the last 4 years, and I woudln't mind a little urban-y campus escape.

Yeah, I am deciding between GULC and BC. BC has a beautiful campus in a suburban environment with a great university feel. GULC has an urban campus in a cool building in D.C. Kind of comes down to what you prefer. They couldn't be more different, yet I find both appealing.
