University of Houston Admitted Students Preview Day
Is anyone going to the one on March 12th? Does UH typically give travel stipends?

haha yeah i am. i have a sincere love for UH but given some other schools i've been admitted to im not sure if it'll be right the match. it'd be easier if they dished out some $ every once in a while.. especially now with the tuition hike lol.
but on topic, i might go.. still debating though (and it's Tulane's ASW weekend also.. though they have like 3 of them haha).

Cute avatar. If I don't go to the one on March 12th, I'll go to the one on April 9th. I just wanted to get a feel for how many people plan on going.

Born and raised in Houston. People will hate on my city and say it's congested with traffic, ugly, and pretty boring.. while partly right it's really what you make of it. Yes, UH could be more aesthetically pleasing but it's not a Tier 1 university (we lack funding but really deserving of T1 status and making a huge push for it).. it's also located in the middle of a ward/ghetto lol. The law school is pretty awesome and I honestly think it's an honor to be admitted there.
If you have any questions about Houston- whether it be housing, what to do, where to go, etc. please dont hesitate to ask and Ill help you the best I can.

Yay! I'm excited. I've never been to Houston. I hope the buildings and neighborhood aren't as crappy as everyone says.

I've been to U of H several times and the area is not nearly as bad as everyone makes it out to be. The law school could use a face lift but for a public school it is in pretty good shape.

Has anyone received the materials for ASD yet? The ASD brochure says all materials will be emailed by the 10th.
I haven't gotten anything.

So what were everyone's thoughts about the ASD? Overall, their sales pitch was about what I expected--lower cost, high value, large legal market. I thought the mock class professor was pretty good. The financial aid talk kind of left me feeling like there was a dark cloud hanging over my head... namely, the 17% tuition increase over 2009, the lack of useful advice from the rep, and her inability to correctly pronounce "FAFSA." Also not getting financial aid notification until after most first deposits are due... quite annoying.
I don't think they hurt themselves but they didn't score any points with me.

Do you think they be giving out more merit-based scholarships due to the tuition increase?

I highly doubt that's the reason they raised tuition. Perhaps in the future they will, but what UH seems to need more than anything else is a gargantuan endowment.FB567 wrote:+1TCS wrote:So what were everyone's thoughts about the ASD?
