Re: WUSTL ASD
We are all booked at the Clayton Sheraton (thanks HBK!) and flying in from CA on Thursday. Who else is going to be there this weekend? We are staying through Sunday to get a feel for the city. Anyone have good restaurant, places to see recs for me? I am trying to convince my husband this is going to be a great place to live (we live in LA now) so I want to show him St Louis's A game.

Definitely check out the St. Louis Zoo and the surrounding Forest Park area. It isn't far from WUSTL and it is a really nice area. There are also some other museums (art, science, etc.) in this area and they are all free admission. As far as dining options go, I would recommend at least one meal at The Hill. The Hill is the old Italian neighborhood in St. Louis and it is known for its great Italian food and bakeries. There are plenty of great places to eat, but I'm a big fan of Zia's. The Hill is right by Forest Park, so you could easily make a day out of this.jks289 wrote:We are all booked at the Clayton Sheraton (thanks HBK!) and flying in from CA on Thursday. Unfortunately, the Cardinals aren't going to be in town since the season hasn't started yet, otherwise I'd definitely recommend seeing a Cardinals game at the new Busch Stadium. Cardinals fans are without a doubt the best baseball fans in the world! The Cardinals are a big draw for me to going to WUSTL.
The Gateway Arch is a cool landmark to check out. As far as going out, I'm not too familiar with the bars and all of that, but there is a casino boat you could try that is supposed to have cheap drinks and a good casino scene.
Last but certainly not least, the Budweiser brewery tour is awesome! It used to be free, but I'm not sure if it is anymore. It might be like $5 or so, but it is well worth a trip. You get lots of beer samples at the end and the brewery itself is really impressive.
Hope you have a good time in STL! I'll be there this for the ASD too. I'm definitely looking forward to this weekend.

I recommend the double irish whisky at the Fox and Hound Tavern on the first floor of your hotel (Chesire). Had it the other day. Delicious!

Oops. I meant double irish coffee. It has irish whisky and irish creme in it. I drank it decaf because it was night. But they also have a lot of whisky if that's what you're into.

I should have done some research into hotels on here. I wish I was in the Cheshire (sp?). Sounds like the place to be!dvd wrote:I'm into the idea of a British bar in my hotel, so whatever !mbaino wrote:Oops. I meant double irish coffee. It has irish whisky and irish creme in it. Does anyone know what they said the dress code was for this thing? I'm assuming "casual" yeah?

So, anyone willing to share their ASD experience in extenso with those who were unable to attend?
