I don't know that it's been said in this thread, but Seton Hall/Rutgers Newark may qualify. They both have somewhat big athletics, are within driving distance of the beach and mountains, are both close to Far Hills and whatever polo thing goes on at Liberty State Park. I don't think either of them get significant out of state attendance. If the student body is mostly comprised of NJ kids, you've been out bro-ed. Come for the fistpumping, stay for the pork roll egg and cheese on a bagel.hipcatdaddio wrote:Kind of amazing as to what some people believe passes as frat.
If your college makes you have on-campuses "houses" that are essentially glorified dorms = Not frat.
If your college doesn't tailgate/have big-time athletics = Not frat.
If your college isn't close enough to get to a beach and/or the mountains for your fall/spring weekend retreats = not frat.
If your college doesn't have a horse derby within driving distance = not frat.
If there isn't some underlying, persistent conflict between the greek student body and the GDI student body = not frat.
If your college administration ultimately sides with the GDIs in said conflict = not frat.
Basically, UGA, UF, FSU, Bama, Ole Miss = FaF.
ETA: I love my Alma Mater, but UNC isn't frat.

Re: "Fratty" Law Schools
There are plenty of midwestern schools that are FaF tbh. Mizzou for starters. Also, the NE is not really anymore frat than the midwest or the west. The south is in a league of its own.pancakes3 wrote:Sorry bro, midwest is per se unfrat and just because you've been to Senor Frogs doesn't make you frat. There's only NE frat and Southern frat. If you use the word "fratstar" then you're just a bro - not frat.mwells56 wrote:Disagree for the bolded, plenty of rich frat kids at midwestern schools have their parents buy them vacations to Mexico for Spring Break, and it's pretty fratty down there. Also, nobody gives a crap about horse racing outside of the south unless there's a horse going for the Triple Crown, and even then people only care about the Belmont and then stop caring as soon as the Belmont's over.hipcatdaddio wrote:Kind of amazing as to what some people believe passes as frat.

Otherwise you're on the money.
And lol at Belmont. 1) It's all about the derby. 2) Of course people stop caring as soon as Belmont is over bc Belmont's the last leg.
Stick to the rivers and the lakes that you're used to, bruh.

If you wear a backwards baseball cap, you're not FaF. (Corollary: If you wear a visor anywhere not on a golf course, you're not FaF).
If you attend a land grant school, you're not FaF.
If you charge money at the door for your parties, you're not FaF.
If you rent or timeshare your vacation house, you're not FaF.
If you vacation on a lake, you're not FaF.
If you don't know how to ski, you're not FaF (snowboarding should be just a phase you're going through).
If you wear Oakleys, you're not FaF.
If your chapter of your frat goes past the first 24 letters to designate itself, you're not FaF.
If you hold your formals at your house or at a bar, you're not FaF.
If your house doesn't have columns, you're not FaF.
ljl at Mizzou being FaF.

If not top tier, then not FaF. In terms of law schools, that means only fratty law schools in the t14 are FaF. Basically only UVa and maybe (lol but not really at all) Duke are truly FaF.

This is the vibe I got from frat boys throughout college (excluding the Divine Nine frats).Milksteak wrote:So being "frat" is basically being a huge asshole?

Even though I have a bit of a knee-jerk reaction against state schools being considered fratty.PrezRand wrote:pancakes3 wrote:Bros, being fratty as fuck means being elite as fuck. The true fratbro can get shitfaced 4 days a week and still beat the curve. Moreover, when he kicks ass with effortless grace he does it not because any conscious effort but because when he wakes up in the morning he just naturally pisses excellence. The guy who's graduating with a dogshit GPA and/or at a dogshit school can bro out all he wants but he's just a poser. It's not about connections, wealth, or if your parents came over on the Mayflower. It's about being cool asfuckshit, chill asshitfuck, and if you pull.
Imo Duke and UVa have this pretty much on lock because their UG reputation trump any and all pro-frat-justifications that the rest of the T14 can marshall.

I'd say Vanderbilt was the only arguably fratty law school I visited.

Re: "Fratty" Law Schools
Being "frat" is not necessarily being an asshole. There are the "nice guy"/Friendzone frats and other boners as well.
Btw, the most frat schools in the top 20 should go like this
UT
UVA
USC
Vanderbilt
Michigan
UCLA
The rest don't matter because they aren't remotely close to being frat. I would put Stanford next followed by the ivies but it's pointless.

Just hard to reconcile money and exclusivity with state schools in my mind.SplitMyPants wrote:lol youre obv not from the southeast thenHikikomorist wrote: Even though I have a bit of a knee-jerk reaction against state schools being considered fratty.

^Agreed. UVA is fratty insofar that people wear chubbies and backwards hats. But it is a law school with some of the smartest people you'll meet. Fratty just doesn't really make sense
