Cold weather sucks regardless of how many layers you throw on. Give me the heat and humidity over the snow and and freezing temps any day of the week.

difference is up here there is a much greater chance that i have to walk for a long time in the cold weather...down TX its hot but its like a 30 sec walk to the car. AC from point A to point B lol. and along those lines, id rather drive in TX than the NE any day.

And you can jump in a pool and eat an ice cream cone in the shade when it gets to be 105. Plus, I love warm evenings and eating out on a porch or roof top.

The most enjoyable time I've had in Texas lately has been when everything was iced over and it was 14 degrees out. All of you can shove it.

Just saw this, you're moving to Austin but have never lived here, right? On many Summer nights, it's still too hot to sit outside comfortable. In Texas in the summer, most of the pools and bodies of water get so hot that they're not at all refreshing. I love Texas, and I can see both sides, but know that the heat is pretty miserable for about 4 months out of the year. It just sucks for an additional 2-3.

This. No state is perfect, but when you start comparing apples to oranges (Texas heat v. California cost of living, or Bible-thumping conservatives v. NE traffic) I'll take Texas over most other states.

I have lived in California for most of my life and moved to Texas about 6 years ago, I attend University of Houston and was deeply offend by your comments.

I showed your posts to one of my good friends, who had the following to say:

Hello, I came across your rude and ignorant comments after my good friend (who is a conservative) shared this forum with me.

I am not a Texan, not even American, however, I tend to get slightly agitated and offended by people that come to this state with a closed mind especially with preconceived negative notions about Houston. Houston is the fourth biggest city in the US, with a mayor that is not only a woman but a gay women. Houston also has a large culture of immigrants and is often considered the most multi-cultural city in the world. UH is also the 2nd more diverse campus in the world. This clearly shows the diversity in political opinion within Houston.

I am not sure about the law school, but doctors and dentists choose Texas schools based on quality of education (some of the finest schools in the world are in Texas).

I think that you should quit living under a rock and give Texas a chance.

Sincerely,

-Recent U.S Immigrant

I was born in Houston and have lived here my entire life. I am currently an accounting major at UH.

You do not need to worry about "hillbillies." Ironically, I drove through Ohio last week (visiting my bro in Erie, Pa) and saw a building with a huge confederate flag pinned to the roof. I had never seen anything like that before, and it was pretty shocking. When I stopped to grab coffee at a nearby McDonald's, I noticed that every single person in the store was white. Despite being white myself, it made me uncomfortable because I am used to the melting pot that is Houston! Maybe that will give you some perspective.

As for politics, the only people who get into arguments about it are the ones who feel the need to share their opinions with everybody else. I think that is the case in most parts of the country.

Somebody mentioned that the area around campus is terrible. This is true. Do not live near campus!!

If you have any other questions about Houston or about campus, I will be happy to help you.

This is not all true. Scott street is pretty bad but South of Wheeler is pretty decent. I have had a friend live in the area for a couple of years and it's really not as bad as everyone thinks, especially when you get to know to locals.
