Those cheap bastards. Although I do appreciate the travel stipend. The flight I found came in just under the stipend they have from my part of the world. I guess I'll look up flights leaving Saturday though.YCrevolution wrote:I don't think most student hosts would mind the three day stay (I wouldn't mind). I'll be coming with my SO, so we will probably be staying in a hotel. I think if I drive I can keep the expenses around 250. Plus the drive from Nashville isn't too bad.

Hopefully I'll get in by the end of the month, but I'm planning on the mid-March date. Will be in a hotel most likely since my wife is coming with me.

I'll be going March 19 as well. I think I'm going to stay with a student, although I'm afraid of it being awkward. Do we just stay in their apartment on their couch or something? And has anyone found how much it's going to cost?

I think hosts are free....
I am looking forward for a host. It would be great to see how student life really is.
I don't think it would be ackward at all. Then again that's sort of my personality
. I talk a lot of situations in order to decrease ackwardness.
How do you thank your host? Would baking a batch of cookies be a bad idea?

Omg, tell me about it. I though I would take the train, but only 1 or 2 leave per day (and arrive too late). And flights out of Philly are sooo expensive. Right now I'm looking into leaving from Newark... because I really don't want to make a 5 hour drive alone.slider wrote:I'll be there for March 19th ASW. There's also Amtrak from Philly. I've looked into it and the ticket prices are not too bad...about the same price as a trip to DC. Only thing is, there are only a few trains per day, compared to many between Philly and DC.maggiebre wrote:Omg, tell me about it. I signed up to be housed with a student, but if they don't have a space for me, I'd be interested in sharing a hotel room with another TLSer if you are interested.hopefulundergrad wrote:I'm going the March 19 weekend.
What is everyone doing for lodging? UVA student? Hotel? Darden Exec Center?

Re: UVA ASW 2010!!
I found a ticket from Boston for only $175 vs Hartford for $370 so think I'll take that route. My sister lives in Boston so having her drop me off. Question I have is how is everyone going from airport to the campus. Is there a shuttle, cab? If too much might just rent a car. Think they are like $100. Anyone flying in wanna split and have wheels for the weekend. I am going to march asw. flying in thurs til saturday. Is this how long people usually stay? I have to go look at apts at this time as well.

Not sure. I was debating whether to miss an extra half-day of work for it. It sounds fun though.maggiebre wrote:Yea, I looked into it. The problem is that the only trains from Philly get into C-Ville late Thursday (like 7:30)... do you think most people will be at the BBQ or whatever it is that's scheduled?democrattotheend wrote:There's also Amtrak from Philly. I am going to be driving down from DC and would love to have some company in the car, so if you want to take a train or bus to DC (or you could even park your car in my building) we could drive down together. Trains between DC and Philly run frequently, and there's also the cheap Chinatown bus, although it's a little sketchy so proceed with caution.

I plan on going to the BBQ. I was actually considering the drive from CT if some people would come along but the deal I got for flying is too cheap to pass up for 8 hours in a car.maggiebre wrote:Yea, I looked into it.
