No, I'd stick with boots or flats. I think you would look overdressed in heels.lz06 wrote:Does anyone wear heels to these things? I really don't want too..
And we're not talking about ASWs, right? I was under the impression that those are casual.

Yea I was, but I haven't really looked into it that much. Casual as in jeans?maggiebre wrote:No, I'd stick with boots or flats. I think you would look overdressed in heels.lz06 wrote:Does anyone wear heels to these things? I really don't want too..

Jeans are really fine. Most law students wear jeans every day. Some girls do choose to wear heels every day, though, for whatever reason.

I was under the impression that if your already admitted slash going for ASW then casual is fine. I would probably wear jeans and a sweater.
However, if youre visiting BEFORE being admitted then dressing in the business casual range is probably a good idea.

I visited penn last fall and wore a wool houndstooth dress that was a an inch above the knee and flat kneehigh boots. I was prob overdressed but that's just the way I dress on a daily basis. Most people were wearing jeans, I save jeans for when its cold out. I really dislike khakis but seems like the general consensus in this thread is that ill need a pair =/

Re: What should girls wear on visits?
So is there a pseudo consensus that for ASWs (not anything else):
A pair of nice jeans and a nice sweater/button down/etc. would be appropriate?
(And thanks to the OP for starting this thread, I've been wondering the same thing!)

bump.
For ASWs, I am considering either jeans and a sweater or some type of casual dress. Thoughts?

Fack, you are admitted to the school. Just wear jeans and a decent shirt if that's what you normally wear. If you normally wear greasy track pants and a stained wife beater, just go for it....
Its not as if they are going to walk up and ask your name so that they can revoke your admission.

No, you should run to J.Crew and blow 3k on a new wardrobe immediately.lsathalon wrote:bump.

Is guys wearing khakis an east coast thing? The only time I've worn khakis in the last decade is when playing golf.
EDIT: On a side note, the GAP khaki advertising campaign in the 90's had some of the best pieces of marketing ever.

I associate khakis and polo shirts with 12 years of catholic school... they were really ugly khakis too. It's taken me 4 years just to buy a polo shirt, so khakis may never happen.

admitted or not pretty much everyone can just wear jeans and a sweater or tshirt or anything completely casual. no one will care and pretty much everyone else will be dressed the same way.

Dress like the one on the right. DO NOT DRESS LIKE THE ONE ON THE LEFT.

They both look basically the same. That is, they both look like they shouldn't really be in public. If it's cold enough that you need a coat, wearing a mini skirt just makes you look desperately slutty.Kohinoor wrote:

Re: What should girls wear on visits?
First impression is a lasting impression.
It depends on which school you are visiting. A rule of thumb might be to dress nice enough that people know you care about your appearance and the impression you make, but not to overdress, unless you are interviewing. Jeans and tennies are out, as is the evening dress.
You can dress better for urban schools than for schools in college towns. In NYC, L.A., S.F., Chicago, ATL, Dallas, Houston, Seattle, Philly, D.C., dress it up. You'll see some students who are dressed really nicely, so you won't look out-of-place.
In college towns, go for a nice pair of khaki capris or a nice slack with a pretty sweater or blouse and a nice shoe. You want to be dressed slightly better than the students who go there, so people know you're on business, but without appearing stuffy.
Be sure your hair, makeup and nails are immaculate no matter what. And carry a nice bag. Be organized, take notes. Go easy on the purfume or eschew it altogether.
The way the girl on the right in the photo above is dressed is appropriate also. She's hot. Another suggestion, look at "Gossip Girl" and go for the preppy look they often show. That works all over the place.
If admitted, you can dress down a little, but I would still look nice.

That first outfit is atrocious.
As someone said, "Schoolgirl" is TCR. You are visiting a school, after all

I'm going to wear the jeans without holes in them, and my "nice" hoodie.

Sigh. I want your wardrobe.amyLAchemist wrote:There are lots of things between jeans and business casual, and even between khakis and business casual. I am a huge fan of skinny cotton/cotton blend pants with boots or a cute pair of low heels or flats. Or widelegged/cuffed cotton pants with a pattern (striped, checked, etc) (See Gap, Banana Republic, Express, etc) This or nice jeans is typically what i wear to school on a daily basis in the winter, with a sweater, twinset, button down, or long-sleeved tee. Also a frequent wearer a long sweater/shirt with leggings and boots. That works as well.
