They definitely did a great job. I think the biggest part of that was the involvement of current students. It's not that Columbia hand picked a small group of student volunteers to support the school; instead there were a ton of current students involved, and they enthusiastically welcomed the admits. The main thing I'm trying to get out of attending admitted students programs is a sense of the atmosphere, and I was impressed by the way Columbia was represented this week.

I suppose the free beer and wine didn't hurt the enthusiasm... :P

I am so peeved that I was not able to attend!! FREE BEER?!? Stupid homework and prelims. I honestly, don't know why I worry about keeping my grades up. I mean going to CLS  I should just stop studying now!

I thought the first day was pretty good, but I was tired & ended up skipping the second day, I hope I didn't miss anything much (and that they didn't take roll in the mock classes, because I definitely wasn't there).

It was a very well put together ASW. Columbia definitely moved up on my list!

Haha. My professor did call on a few admitted students who weren't present and clucked his tongue when it became clear they weren't there. Mine was actually pretty fun.

And I second the comments being made about Columbia having great ASD programming. A lot of it was the students themselves, which makes it that much more impressive.

Hopefully your professor wasn't Jamal Greene. I had to cancel thanks to a flu, and my mom's convinced I've left an eternal black mark in Professor Greene's eyes.
Naw, Jamal didn't cold call (I was in his class) - however, he is the younger brother of one Talib Kweli

Also, another sweet note on Prof Greene's class, our mock assignment was to read Brown v. Board... halfway through the class an older gentleman (prly around 95) walk in and sits down in the front row, all the while no one says anything.

As Jamal begins to talk about the difficulites post-Brown v. Board he says, "but perhaps Mr. Greenberg is better versed in this topic". On cue Jack Greenberg (who litigated Brown v. Board along side Thurgood Marshall for the NAACP LDF) stood up and talked tothe class for 10 mins about B v. B and what's happened since... it was a very humbling and awesome experience!

hahaha, even if he did, don't sweat it. I'm sure the prof did it as a joke. You're accepted students... skipping a mock class carries zero consequences.

Just so you youngins know, there is no real consequence for skipping real classes once you enroll here.

Yes yes, no consequences. So take heart, Blue, when I say that I did indeed have Ferguson.

Ooh, Ferguson is kind of a stickler for attendance. To be fair, he mostly teaches small-ish classes. And he's a stickler in the sense that he's keeping your best interests in mind (for example, he offered to be a job reference for those in his Art of Legal Persuasion class during the first week of the semester).

...but yeah, no, nobody cares if you miss a mock-class during ASW. Seriously.

ahhh I bet I was one of the unfortunate people who got cold called & wasn't there. I can only hope that if I ever have Ferguson for a class, he doesn't remember my name. :|

I was there. It was interesting and well put together. That first guy that asked questions to the speaker was hilarious.
