Jman,
Do you have any idea what happened at W & L?

I honestly have no clue. I went over my submitted app and did not see any flaws, save for omitting my suffix in the name fields. If the W&L ding hadn't come after the WUSTL acceptance, I would most definitely have gotten into a mini-panic mode and started second guessing my LOR's.

Yeah, I guess different schools prioritize/value different application factors. Speaking of crapshoot... I got rejected from W&L, which was supposed to be as close to a sure thing as anything for me.

Accepted with 20k/year over the weekend. I'm very excited, as the end of March is nearing and I have yet to hear from many schools. Anyone else find it odd that the admitted students day is in April? I'm pretty sure many schools have seat deposit deadlines of April 1st.

Jman,
The way I see it schools either like your PS or they don't. Unless your numbers crush their medians, its really all about PS and feeling you out to see if you will "fit" in their community. If they don't feel you would be a good fit (especially for schools like W&L) they probably use that as THE main deciding factor. It still doesn't make a whole lot of sense though because you were well over their medians. Would you have attended if admitted?

So, I finally got so worried about my application status that I called the office to find out about my status. They told me decision made, 3/12, but couldn't say what the decision was.

I'm worried for 2 reasons:

1) My numbers put me in the admit territory on LSN (in fact, my numbers twins all got in with some cash, money), but they heard long ago and I thought I would've heard by now.

2) They couldn't say what my decision was over the phone.

Does anyone know if my not having heard by now means deny? And if they can't say what my decision was over the phone, does that mean deny?

No, not at all. I think they can't tell you about a decision since they can't know if its really you on the phone.

People were getting accepted all the way until 4/3/09 last year.

they proly just don't want a barrage of phone calls. if they started telling people decisions when they called in, then they'd set a bad precedent that would lead to an (even more inefficient) admissions office. i wouldn't worry. i can't recall any surprise denials from emory yet this cycle.

Fair points and a good question. W&L was a safety for me and I would have considered attending only if the scholarship was something I could absolutely not say no to.

I think it's fair to point out that according to LSN, the vast majority of decisions made after the first week of March 2009 were rejections and waitlists. A handful of exceptions, sure, to those with 166+, mostly 170+, LSATs. The only under-166 LSAT admits who heard after the first week in March were those who were waitlisted until June.

If your numbers are in admit w/money territory, I wouldn't worry so much. But I think you have a point in that not hearing by now probably means you lean toward a rejection, if we go by what the LSN data for last year's cycle says.

Yep I think that is fair. I suspect that since his numbers are so high for Emory and if you look at the trend of the last two years on LSN it appears that a 166+ gets in close to 80% of the time. I don't have the time right now (finals) to do a data analysis of the 166+s who got in after 3/1 of their respective years, but if you look at the data there's very little red/yellow on the graphs for 166+s :)

Is it possible to see scholarship awards online via Emory's OPUS system?

I received an email indicating that I could check my "award package" online, but I only see Federal Stafford Loans. Given what I have received from other, more competitive schools, I am a bit perplexed that no merit scholarships are listed.

Or must I wait for a letter?
