I think my case would only be strong if this was before the first deposit deadline and I had a higher LSAT. But, I will let you guys know what they say nonetheless.rockababy123 wrote:I completely understand the need to "mix it up" and leave an area that you've been at for a while. I'm also interested to hear what Villanova will say to your email...you have an extremely strong case to argue for more money. Keep us posted!snowpeach06 wrote:I probably will wind up sticking with my decision to go to Case, since it would be too difficult to switch things up now. But there is something very tempting about the idea of getting out of Cleveland. I've already been here for 4 years.

Tried a few times, failed miserably. They're stingy. Maybe you'll have better luck than I did. If you like the school, I see no problem with sticker. I'm not one of those T14 w/scholly or bust people. Just, for me, it wouldn't make sense to go without money. The long story is that my grandma passed, and apparently one her last statements was that my dad should use her money to pay for my law school. But, I don't know how much there was, and I know i'll never make a lot of money, so it isn't worth it for me.beach_terror wrote:Tried a few times, failed miserably. They're stingy. I hear you, and sorry about the grandmom passing.
I want to live and work in Philly, and Temple was a no go, so Villanova was the most sensible option. Also have the option to live at home during/after law school to help knock off some debt. Different strokes for different folks.

And living at home is kind of sweet. Living is 1/4 the price of law school.

Good luck with getting the $, I do think sending the email was a good idea so they know your situation, I believe it helped me. From what I understand, they did reserve some money for possible late acceptances, hopefully there is still some to go your way.snowpeach06 wrote:Thank you.beach_terror wrote:I hear you, and sorry about the grandmom passing.

For anyone wondering, this is the e-mail I just got back re: money:
"Congratulations on your acceptance to Villanova University School of Law. Typically, students who are admitted from the wait list are not awarded scholarships, but every application is evaluated for scholarship eligibility. There may be more scholarships awarded to recently admitted students in the coming weeks, but it will depend on the availability of funding. In the meantime, your name has been added to the list of students who have requested merit aid."

At least they were nice about basically saying no dice. Does this affect your decision at all?snowpeach06 wrote:For anyone wondering, this is the e-mail I just got back re: money:

I'll wait that few more weeks on the off chance that 30 people with a full ride get into Harvard, and instead of passing their money onto people with higher numbers they give it to me. But most likely after that I'll withdraw.rockababy123 wrote:At least they were nice about basically saying no dice. Received a letter saying that I'm still on the waitlist... anyone have a seat deposit at a "backup" and worried about loans and fees coming up? I received a bill from my "backup" saying that I needed to fill out my master promissory note in order to defer my fees before June 10.... does this mean I can now only receive loans through my back up school? What happens if I get accepted to Nova and my loans are already through my other school? Anyone else having this problem?

That's really the kind of question you would need to ask to both of the schools' financial aid offices.KDW wrote:Received a letter saying that I'm still on the waitlist... anyone have a seat deposit at a "backup" and worried about loans and fees coming up? Re: Villanova 2010
I'm in the same situation. I spoke with several people about this, including Villanova's financial aid office and my back up schools financial aid office. They said that it should not be an issue, so long as the school has not already dispersed the loan money. My back up school said they do not disperse the loan money until the first day of classes. So, my suggestion (and this is what I have done) go ahead with the financial aid procedures for your back up school. Granted, Villanova did tell me that the worse case scenario is that they receive my funds later because of the transfer and that I will have to pay out of pocket until the money is received and then I will be reimbursed....which would be difficult- hence the need for a loan in the first place.Received a letter saying that I'm still on the waitlist... anyone have a seat deposit at a "backup" and worried about loans and fees coming up? Thanks akeller! That was very helpful and supports what I have heard from the financial aid people at StudentLoans.gov you just explained it better. Good luck getting off the waitlist hopefully I'll see you at Nova in the fall!

I think the only advice one could offer would be to go to a school in the legal market you hope to start your career in, as well as the school you think puts you in the best position for receiving a job offer afterwards. Beyond that, I am not sure you could base it on much else as ranks are similar, and no $$ from either.talkingcreds wrote:In this afternoon via email. Really dont know what i should do.

Just accepted from the waitlist with a 158 and 3.55. Also don't know if I'll be able to accept without a little help from the financial aid office...

I must admit that I am going slightly crazy waiting to get off of the wait list. I want Villanova so badly, even if they don't give me any money. I love their programs. I wish they would just give me the green light and I'm there.
