yup. you show receipts. they give you money depending on how far you travel. <500 miles =$75, etc.lz06 wrote:I don't have access to the admitted students site yet, would someone mind telling me how travel reimbursements work for ASD? Do you need to show receipts, and how much $ do they give? Thanks everyone.

[quote="BLi] although i don't know where lawyering was coming from regarding "cultural competency (your "point two", fill us in, lawyering?), your "point one" is wrong.
the fact she is of the female persuasian is already evident in the suffix "a" in "latina". this is the point lawyering is making.

Right. A latina might take offense to being called a "latina woman", just like a lesbian might not want to be called a "lesbian girl". The former shows ignorance about hispanic culture, the latter about lgbt culture. I'm sorry to say but when classifying a human being, it almost never remains solely a linguistic question. (In fact, unless she's specifically labeled herself as lesbian, it's best not to assume/label her yourself).

while i agree on most counts (even the parenthetical statement, though i think context may play an important role here -- none of us were actually IN that room at the time when the woman was speaking), im skeptical that gasja's use of "lesbian girl" was a sign of lgbt cultural ignorance...in fact, i doubt anyone would even view that comment in such a manner (yourself excluded). it seems clear (to me at least) that the phrase was just a slip. nothing more...and im somewhat surprised that you would think otherwise.lawyering wrote:Right. wow that's awesome how long ago did you submit all of your documents?skynet wrote:Finaid package via email 7:25 this morning.
hey stupid question, but i have selective service registration under my list of required documents. I'm a girl so I didn't think I had to do this and there is no link to anything for it. I emailed the financial aid department but they haven't written me back. does anyone know what i'm supposed to do about that document?

Re: In at Harvard!
Does anyone have a general idea of what the schedule is like for the April ASW (perhaps based on the March schedule)? I'd like to go ahead and book flights. Do most people fly up Friday evening or Saturday? What activities are on Monday (I might have to fly back Sunday night)? Any help would be great.

Things start around 4:30 on Saturday so depending how close you are you can fly in on either friday or saturday. On monday there are some panels about things like clerkships, financial aid, jobs, public service and housing and also a chance to attend a real class. I was pretty worn out by monday and I think you would be fine to miss it and is it wasn't terribly informative.

Re: In at Harvard!
To those of you that were admitted a while back what else have you recieved from Harvard other than the admit packet? I'm wondering what I've missed lol. I read a couple pages back and saw people were given the option to be contacted by current students, anything else interesting??

Most of those things come through your email account, LZ, not snail mail. Have you set up your email yet, and do you check it?

Does anyone know if we have to enroll before we can apply for housing? I keep trying to log in to the application and none of the username/password combinations I've tried seem to work.

yeah mine don't work either. I think they want your seat deposit first. Where are you planning to live? I'm looking at Gropius or North Hall or perhaps a studio off campus if I can find an affordable one.citydweller09 wrote:Does anyone know if we have to enroll before we can apply for housing? by the way is anyone else STILL working on the financial aid package? My mother is taking FOREVER to get me her information. I'm abroad so I can't go to her house and hassle her and there is a 15 hour time difference which makes it hard to call her when I inevitably realize there's yet another piece of missing information that I need from her.
oh well. It doesn't matter when we turn it in as long as it is before the term starts right? Like it won't adversely affect the amount of potential grants or anything will it?

Just dropping in to say it feels good to be able to post in this thread. I haven't sent in a deposit yet, but more and more, it's looking like I'll be joining all of you in Cambridge this fall. Look forward to talking more in the future.
