I was waitlisted today too. Can some of the other waitlisters post their stats?

My stats:
GPA: 3.2
LSAT: 159
Undergraduate: USC
Non-URM

Haha, I saw your update on LSN 20 minutes ago too. I memorized that damn graph so your little yellow dot is the first thing I noticed, largely because you were the waitlistee with the highest scores on that graph. It's a shame.

Who knows? Maybe one of us stupid schmucks will be your substitute.

It depends on your stats.

lawchampion, on a day in which several others were waitlisted I'd say it's a good bet that you're in provided your stats are decent like da monkey said.

I had that message, then a thick envelope with school info arrived yesterday via snail mail.

I'll be withdrawing. GL to those on the WL~

Yeah, I figured they were pretty full or it was yp...or maybe i rubbed them the wrong way with my app...what stings the most is that two of my roommates got in before me and they won't stop giving me crap about not getting in...one is hispanic w/ a 3.3/155 and the other is aa with a 2.5/153 so it seems like they're liking urms a lot right now

Did they get into the FT or PT programs?

2.5 GPA is a bit low, but then again he is AA.

What is YP?

The 3.3/155 got in full time and the aa guy is going PT and has to do this summer program thing to help him adjust to law school...

yp is yield protection which is when a school dings someone whose numbers should get them in because they think that the likelihood of that person actually attending that school is low...they do it to keep admissions stats low because it looks better when they have a higher % of admits that matriculate

My hunch is that Southwestern doesn't engage in yield protection.

Is anyone that got into the PT program considering transferring either to the FT program or to another school?

Does anyone know how this process works? I would assume transferring to a FT program at another school would be difficult because of the lack of units? Would it be possible to transfer after my second year at a PT program?

Sorry for all the questions but getting in PT put a damper on my future plans.

I believe at SW it is required that you complete the first year PT. You then simply have to appeal to the Dean of Students for transfer to the FT program. It is determined by your grades/overall progress, but certainly possible. I have a friend who managed the same thing at Loyola. Also, you can take extra courses during inter-session and summer whereby you can actually graduate in 3.5 yrs. from the part-time if you don't transfer out. I would imagine that taking those extra courses would be the way to also complete sufficient units to get in to the full-time program readily (and show the necessary enthusiasm!) Hope this helps.

I was told by the other school I was looking to transfer to that they couldn't take me as a part time somewhere else, because of the lack of credits, since they need 30 credits to transfer so that they can see class ranking and so on. I like Southwestern as a school, but my husbands job isn't letting him transfer that is why i wanted to transfer schools.

so now i am considering not going to law school at all, and waiting another year because my husband was told he cant transfer to cali for his job. so i am in the same boat, it put a big damper on my plans.although i haven't asked about transferring after two years in the part time program. my suggestion contact the school you are thinking of going to and asking them all the requirements and questions you have about transferring before you make your decision. that way you know what you are getting into. and nothing is a guarantee, the school might not accept you.

Wow, a 2.5/153 stat, and he got in before you? That's harsh. BTW, what does AA stand for? I know URM=under represented minority, but what's an AA??

Hello Dante -- nice to hear from you! Thank you for asking. I have paid my second deposit so as it stands, I am set for admission at SW. I am waitlisted at Pepperdine & Loyola (those are the only other schools I applied to). The daily commute to SW is a VERY big concern for me, so I am riding out the two waitlists and hoping very much that Pepperdine will come through in the end. Am sending them some other materials next week and having a campus visit, so we shall see. Hope your exam taking has gone/continues well.

Good luck. I assume the reason you can't move is because you have a mortgage? I would be concerned about that commute as well. Maybe you can get a studio near the school to stay and study in during the week (to avoid the commute and distractions at home).

I got in early April with a 3.01 / 160

On the waitlist at USD, if that doesn't work out, I'll be attending SW in the Fall

Seriously? What are you waiting for?

Now there's a charge.
