Southwestern makes extensive use of the waitlist and will take students off up until the first day of classes. There is probably plenty of movement on the waitlist right now. The movement will continue up until classes start.lawschoolmike wrote:Does anyone know when we can expect movement on the waitlist? What are the chances of getting off the waitlist?

If you want to preserve your reputation in law school, you would do well to refrain from making the same asinine contributions in class that you keep making in this thread.

I agree, you should think of refraining from updating us constantly as to how you haven't received a decision and just update us when you do receive a decision.
In case this helps, I just called the admissions office and they hope to have decisions made within 8 - 10 weeks of your initial review date. However, they also added that it may take up to 12 weeks due to the busy period.

Thanks for the update filmbuff and CONGRATULATIONS!filmbuff wrote:Well, this is directed especially to Mr. Matlock (and, of course,to all those waiting!) that my previous predictions about the solid value of the info. that the 3 yr. was full and that the deposit deadlines don't mean a whole lot:
Out of the blue, today I received a letter congratulating me on my acceptance into the traditional 3 yr. program. What????!! That means I have now been accepted in to the 2 yr., 3 yr. and 4 yr.! Evidently a lot of people are not paying up and my "new" 2nd deposit deadline is June 1st and not May 1st. So ... obviously there is still room for plenty of acceptances (and for you to suffer a bit longer) after June 1st when the 2nd deposits don't respond. Remember, I was told that not only was the 3 yr. full but that due to the huge increase in apps. that there would likely not be much change and secondly, that I would not receive any sort of correspondence indicating any decision re. my transfer from SCALE to 3 yrs. So there you have it -- hope it boosts your spirits a tad!
Now, onto another matter. This is a thread that originated back in November for the SOLE PURPOSE of those interested in attending Southwestern for the fall of 2010. If you look around, you will find many school threads just like it with many folks very anxious for either regular or waitlist acceptances/rejections. People post in them EVERY DAY and it gives them a chance to vent frustrations, hear about others experiences, get updates on the process, and to hopefully get to know some of the students we'll be with for the next 3 years. This is one place on TLS where you should feel safe. If you feel the need to chastise or berate a poster on here, either send them a PM or keep your personal opinions to yourself. There are plenty of other off-topic threads here at TLS where you can feel to call people idiots, immature, or morons concerning their opinions. I do it every day! Stay classy Southwestern thread!!
Enough rant. Good luck and best wishes to all!

Thank you Dante. and Mr. Matlock for the congratulations.
I agree with Mr. Matlock's comments. Come on boys .... let's not go down this road. I spent the morning volunteering in my twins' kindergarten class and I thought THEY were tough customers! I think everyone is tired (Dante. preparing for finals and S. Monkey anxious to know if and where he is going), so let's call it a draw and pick up fresh tomorrow. I have really enjoyed coming to this thread and feeling a sense of the humorous but good-hearted spirit -- I have enough fights in my "real" life on a daily basis to contend with!

i just finally got onto the site after having trouble today and it says final decision has been made and sent. Now I won't be able to fall asleep tonight...i went complete on 3/25. i applied to both part-time programs and full-time, is it bad that it didn't take the 8 to 12 weeks to reach a decision that someone mentioned earlier?

Just email them a kind note saying that while you appreciate the offer, you will be pursuing another opportunity. Hello All!
Mr. Matlock: That sounds like a delightful outing with your little girl!
I just thought of something ... I submitted an "extra" essay -- a proposal for an article for the Law Review -- with my application, somewhat comprehensive. I was questioned on its content and scholarly value in my interview for SCALE. It could not hurt to submit something "else" while any of you are waiting ... almost better than a LOCI, no? I really think things will start moving in another month and that lots of slots will open up.
Happy Chango is so decided. Congrats!!
Well, it's my birthday, so off to eat a cupcake and watch a good movie as the twins are asleep. Have a good weekend all!

Re: Southwestern
filmbuff: if LR is a goal, then SCALE isn't the best choice. You'd be much better off in the day program. In a typical year only 1 or 2 SCALE people do LR. Also, since they are only there for two years, they can't serve on the executive board or be editors as 3Ls. They also only get one shot at publication, instead of two. They also have much less time to focus on their article. Also, if you are in PLEAS, you will probably have to be the top student after two years, as there are only about 10 people in the program in a normal year. Obviously, you can't be considered for LR until after your second year in PLEAS or evening. So, the day program is probably your best choice if you think you have a shot at doing well enough for LR.
btw, I think I'm going to start work this summer on an article about Goldman's duty to disclose and financial regulatory reform. I'll be working this summer at the SEC's division of trading and markets, so that should give me an interesting perspective on all the new rules that will be proposed.
If I match my performance last semester this semester, I'll be on LR...

I was wondering if anyone has logged onto the Admissions Resource Connection for admitted students? If so, did your user name & password have to do with your personal information?

Rossrobert: I tried logging in and don't know what you are supposed to use. I am going to call admissions and enquire.
Danteshek: Thank you for the thoughts on LR. I agree that SCALE would not be a realistic setting to afford the chance to be a part of LR. It's not particularly a goal of any sort, just something I would likely pursue. I have a humanities PhD. and have written and been published in journals etc., so I just am used to writing/research in the scholarly realm. I still am working on the article I submitted with my admissions package (as it's relevant to on-going litigation to which I am a party and something that's proving to be rather an anomaly. Fifth round of litigation in ten years!)
You sound as though you have a busy but productive summer ahead!
