Norwood wrote:swollenmonkey asked a question that is a legitimate concern to people, however there isn't really a clear that answer. It is impossible to place a weight on which will matter more between prestige vs. grades. As Danteshek mentioned, all you can do is present your body of work as best as you can. But prestige does matter for certain employment such as biglaw or academia. It would be silly to say that school doesn't matter. Someone who is capable of placing in the top 5% at UCLA or Loyola will definitely have more doors open than top 5% at SW.
Obviously, if you want academia you should go to Yale. UCLA is not going to cut it, much less Southwestern. For Biglaw, you need to be in the top 10 percent, preferably with a strong resume.

Doesn't memorization take place during the course of the semester by studying and chopping-off the fluff from your outlines?

Still waiting.

I haven't found a second job either. It sucks.

I never had any fluff in my outlines.

Sorry, bro! I should have clarified what I meant by fluff. Over the course of the semester, as you study an outline, you will eventually begin to memorize some of the material better than other material (for whatever reason). Once you have this material easily memorized, you no longer need to review it. If you already know and understand it, why waste brain power on it? This way, you can save your mental energy to tackle whatever concepts need more time. So, fluff is material that you already understand and know, and can remember with a simple mnemonic device or whatever.

No offense swollenmonkey but you need to stop posting about your waiting anxiety, if your waiting out Southwestern you may just want to retake the LSAT.

Matlock, hang in there buddy. There is definitely some activity in admissions office. Although my status checker hasn't budged in over a month, I got a call this Friday and I will be calling tomorrow to accept the offer they've extended.

:D Congrats jd!!! Hopefully they've got an idea of where they're at now, considering deposits were due, and decide to give their Uncle Matlock a call as well!!

Thanks! I'm sure you'll hear soon. I'm in that February LSAT group, went C&IR 3/15, got a phone call later that week and then sat staring at my status checker for a month hoping for anything. Here's to hoping I run into you this Fall! Good luck! :D

Really? Easier said than done...ESPECIALLY when you've already gotten in.

HAHA! Touche! Although, it's been something I've had to think about. My numbers are low, but I'm sort of a non-traditional AND a URM so they have asked me to attend the Academic Excellence Academy which means I will have to be in LA in May. I play semi-pro soccer here on the East Coast and hadn't planned on leaving until late June, so I've had to spend the weekend making sure I have a place to stay during the Academy and of course, finding a way to tell my team!

All that to say, THANKS! :) And GOOD LUCK! As I posted before, and as sort of an echo of Matlock, it seems like there is some promising movement in the admissions office....especially with deposits due recently. Hang in there! Perhaps after all of this anxiety (and before diving head first into books) you, Matlock and I can meet up and celebrate in LA!

Your numbers cannot be that low if it appears you are one of the first to get a call. Congrats again. LA is alright. I'm sure, if we are all admitted, we might run into each other, lol.

Mr. Matlock, what other schools are you waiting on?
The usual suspects: Loyola, Pepperdine, and Chapman. In with a full scholarship at LaVerne, but that would mean, best case scenario, I'd be working in the Inland Empire for the rest of my life. *shudders* I'm looking at working in juvenile defense. SW is outstanding for those types of PI jobs in LA. Plus, it's within a half hour from my house. :)

Thanks!

Did you hear back today? When did you apply?

How do you know how high you are on Pepperdine's waitlist?

I switched from SCALE to evening to daytime all before school started. If you don't want SCALE just call and say you changed your mind and would rather be in the day program. Also, I think you should forget about Pepperdine.

Seriously? What are you waiting for?

Now there's a charge.
