managamy's problem is a constant desire for validation. He probably is a bit of an outcast in real life and he enjoys the thought of people on the Internet possibly being jealous of him and his acceptances. Most people don't care about rejections or waitlists from schools they have no interest in going to, and why should they? Not so, with managamy. His sense of personal worth is so delicate that the thought of somebody not wanting him could potentially unravel him. I honestly feel sorry for the guy.Oli wrote:Call it whatever you like. Am I a bad person if, after reading this thread, I'm now inclined to start hoarding acceptances until April too?

Wow, I am really impressed. You've described me extremely well. I'm not joking or being sarcastic.Helmholtz wrote:managamy's problem is a constant desire for validation. No, you're probably like me; not a bad person, just low on self-esteem.dudester wrote:Am I a bad person if, after reading this thread, I'm now inclined to start hoarding acceptances until April too?

Well please don't.managamy wrote:No, you're probably like me; not a bad person, just low on self-esteem.dudester wrote:Am I a bad person if, after reading this thread, I'm now inclined to start hoarding acceptances until April too?
Some people really DO view this school as one of their top choices (ie: me), and waiting for an acceptance with no wishes of going there is not cool. Personally, I withdraw from the schools I decide to not attend as soon as I make the decision to.
So yea, managamy is a bad influence, lol.

I'm in a similar position. My #s are high for BU, but I need to be in the Boston area for personal reasons, so I accept that I might be willingly forgoing a chance at T14 schools. I somewhat regret not sending in some sort of "why BU" along with my app. Hopefully the $ won't all be gone by the time we're (I assume?) admitted.englawyer wrote:i bet BU is waiting for you to withdraw to protect their yield. you will get in eventually if you want to (same for managamy). Thanks for the encouraging words guys
... I know that ultimately us TLSers are just at the mercy of the adcomms, but I'd like to think that our collective optimism and positive thoughts will somehow get us in--despite the odds.

Re: BU! woot.
It is said that BU sent acceptances by phone or email and rejections by snail mails.
Is this true? BU said my decision has been made but I received no emails. So I reason
that my decision was sent by mail and quite likely to be a rejection. Thanks in advance!
