NYU ED 2010
so, with all the talk about CLS EDers, i figured i'd start a thread for those of us preferring the village to morningside heights (or whatever your reasons may be). i just submitted everything for ED yesterday and could use some company for the wait, particularly given nyu's reputation for non-communication.
so, any nyu EDers out there? what are your numbers (if you want to share), why nyu, and all other miscellaneous information welcome.

I didn't ED but I had to pop in to say that your avatar is fantastic. I laughed out loud.

NYU is a great school. I wish I would have ED'd there instead of CLS. I can't recommend NYU ED highly enough.

Re: NYU ED 2010
I applied ED to NYU. One of my best friends is a 1L now. I have lived around the NYU campus for over a year...
Hemholtz, why do you wish you would have applied ED NYU over CLS?
Does anyone know how much of a boost NYU's ED gives you? I guess it really doesn't matter at this point, I would have applied ED there for even the slightest edge.

So your parents wanted you in a T3, you wanted to make them proud (by going to a T3), so you ED'd to the school ranked 4... and now you think everyone should ED to the school ranked 5?
I'm not sure if I follow?

I'll say it, if your between EDing to NYU or CLS.... CLS is the best school that offers an ED option. So, if your #s are in their range ED to CLS over NYU, or else risk possibly being accepted to CLS and being forced to attend NYU with no scholly.
All in good fun...

Apply to CLS ED. From what I hear it boosts your chances by about 30% whereas NYU doesn't really care.

The dude does not abide by NYU, CLS is the only place to go. They love splitters and applicants who are just below their medians. Numbers? Who needs numbers? CLS doesn't role with USNWR.facetious wrote:no, no you can go advocate for cls on their board. this is a strictly pro-nyu place!

Sent my app and ED contract to NYU yesterday. 177/2.95. It's a stretch for a splitter, but I decided to shoot for the stars. I'm a few years removed from undergrad and have a halfway decent GPA addendum, so hopefully that will help a bit. I know NYU's notorious for keeping silent during the application process, so I look forward to fretting with you guys for a couple of months. Good luck all!

My stats for those who are interested: 172 3.63 (top public) right out of undergrad, pretty weak softs/work experience.
I'm hoping the early decision is enough to get me that coveted seat at NYU law.

I didn't write one. When they rip up my ED contract and waitlist me, then I will write one.ravens20 wrote:Did any of you fellow early decision folk write a "Why NYU" essay?

+1. this will almost undoubtedly be my fate. by that time it will be winter break and i'll be home, which is quite close to nyu, so i can go begging on their doorstep in the dead of winter, treading through the snow. i'm hoping that will be equal to a why essay.Encyclopedia Brown wrote:I didn't write one. I can't imagine why anyone would want to attend Columbia over NYU. CLS doesn't even give you any indication of where it is. Columbia? That could be anywhere. Good luck spending the next three years trying to find the place. Everyone should attend NYU. You know it's in New York, so you already have a smaller search area. In fact, you should probably ED, because you'll need the next eight months to scour Manhattan. But definitely don't ED Columbia. What if it's in Tajikistan? Plane tickets to the Middle East and West Asia are absurd!

It's the same. Instead of thoughtfully answering "Why?" you'll be on the street in the Village screaming "WHYYYY? WHYYYYY?"facetious wrote:+1. this will almost undoubtedly be my fate. by that time it will be winter break and i'll be home, which is quite close to nyu, so i can go begging on their doorstep in the dead of winter, treading through the snow. i'm hoping that will be equal to a why essay.Encyclopedia Brown wrote:I didn't write one. On one episode of Community, the main character was talking about how he was disbarred and the other guy in the scene said something like, "Why? I thought you had a law degree from Columbia," to which the main character replied, "Yeah, now I just need to get one from America."
