Admissions will put you in contact with their "cheerleaders". Basically the workstudy ones that "have" to tell you all the good stuff.lol.Cost of living is WAY lower here than the other schools I got into but with mostly full rides may not be a factor I hope.
Whoaw congrats about the full ride. However, none of the students I have talked to have mentioned a 'gunner' atmoshphere at the law school....care to ellaborate?

I also dont see how COL is so much lower in Austin than everywhere else. Maybe cheaper than NYC, Cali, and Chi but the housing is relatively expensive (however electricity is cheap @ $0.06). I havn't been paying attention to any other school but Duke, so the cheap COL in Durham might be giving me a false impression of the other schools in the top 14 not in big cities.

The thing with Texas is since the UG school here is the best in the country President Powers is changing campus wide policy for us to eclipse Ivies. They just started a +/- system here with no A+. Only 25% of the last few incoming classes at UT LAW came here for UG. The school is full of the BEST of the BEST. The atmosphere can perceive to be laid back but i'm friends with alot of 1L and 2L's and they are cold.
Let me put the COL in perspective for you. I pay $800 a month for rent in a 2/2 alone in a great part of town. 15mins from campus tops. I was accepted to USC and NYU which were my top choices ( Entertainment Law). Atleast double the price in a crappy part of town far away from campus. Traffic isnt bad, weathers amazing (hot a hell though), foods amazing, and the university has a free shuttle bus system that goes all over town. Pretty amazing

I'm not sure where you're getting this, but this is flat out wrong. For one thing, no one in the world would call UT's undergraduate the best in the country. Sure its a very good school, but no one even calls it the top public school, let alone the top UG.

As far as the law school goes, either your friends are feeding you false information, or you're making stuff up. The law school student body is, if anything, less competitive than is strictly optimal. The common complaint among the faculty and administration is not that there are gunners, but that its too hard to get people to speak in class. If you think any of the T14 are going to be more relaxed than UT, you've got another think coming.

Ohhhh no. Your one of those self hating longhorns.lol. Kidding. But heres the info for you. http://colleges.usnews.rankingsandrevie ... top-public. Allow me to rephrase "One of the best and top 3 when it comes to value". Also look here http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/University ... ic_profile
I was just stating my opinion.

And do you go to school here? If so I would be glad to meet with you and introduce you to my law school friends so you can hear what they have to say for yourself. I'm not sure where your getting your info "The common complaint among the faculty and administration is not that there are gunners, but that its too hard to get people to speak in class.". But I believe my friends. The perception of students and the perception of professors can be vastly different but hey it's a forum right. One mans opinion. I may decided to attend or not. Luckily I have a choice.

And do you go to school here? If so I would be glad to meet with you and introduce you to my very credible law school friend so you can hear what they have to say for yourself. I'm not sure where your getting your info "The common complaint among the faculty and administration is not that there are gunners, but that its too hard to get people to speak in class.". But I would believe actual students over something written in any brochure or book.
Are you a flame?

(1) No one in their right mind would make the claim that Texas is the "top public university" in the USA. It fluctuates between 15-20th, so it's not even close to the perennial heavy-hitters like UVa, UNC, and UC-Berkeley. Even the links you posted show that Texas is ranked in the teens. Now, if you had previously said that Texas is ranked "among the best values" - a shift you cleverly employed in your most recent posts - your credibility might not be so shot to hell.

(2) Full ride - really? None of the data out there puts you anywhere close to the people who have received full tuition from Texas, despite your URM status. Comparable offers for people with your numbers have been in the 60,000's. And then you say you got full rides practically everywhere else? We're talking Columbia, Boalt, UCLA, Vanderbilt? Military status boost, I guess?

(3) 13 posts.

I'm not trying to be a hater, but based on the bullshit claims you've made coupled with some hard-to-believe numbers, I'm inclined to call you a flame.

1. Ohhhhh nooo. A random person on the internet doesn't believe me. What will I ever do? Please. It amazes me that you take the time to actually "dispute" my advice to someone else when I was clearly stating my opinion and personal situation. Wooops, My bad. Didn't read the disclaimer that said I need a bunch of random website rankings to validate my own personal opinion.
2. Yes really. An African-American male with my numbers. On top of my military record ( in Texas), economic background, and letters of rec at a university with 4.3% Black males. Have you even looked at the ABA-LSAC Official Guide numbers. Just with my numbers alone i'dd get 50%. It's instate tuition. By your logic even if I was in the 60,000's I would still be on full ride since UT is 21k a year.
3. What does that have to do with anything?

OK, evidence registered; you're more plausible now.

EDIT: But I still don't buy the Columbia, Berkeley free rides.

Okay yeah, you're definitely a flame.

(1) What are you talking about? This is exactly what you said, you fool:

"The thing with Texas is since the UG school here is the best in the country President Powers is changing campus wide policy for us to eclipse Ivies."

That screams to me and everyone else in this thread, "I'm full of shit and I have no idea what I'm talking about." What you said has nothing to do with your personal opinion; you were spewing this bullshit as if it were fact. You get called on it and, in true dimwit fashion, you get defensive and start with your passive aggressive nonsense. *Yawn* - seen it all before.

(2) You don't even know UT's tuition? And you're surprised when people don't believe the garbage you're posting here?

In-state tuition at UT Law is almost $28,000/year, a far cry from your arbitrary number. I'd be interested to know if you pulled that one out of the ABA's Official Guide (but I'm sure it was just your ass).

(3) Explanation unnecessary.

For those keeping score at home, full tuition = $84,000.

USNWR lists full-time in-state tuition as $23,427 in 2008-09, so it's unlikely that it would have declined since then.

Ok. This is getting good.

1. It's was an opinion. If I make a statement like "this is the best burger ever" do I need 20 links that say it's the best burger. Man your gonna be a good lawyer. geez.lol. You spend WAYYYY to much time on forums obviously. Really shows your level of intelligence. When you clearly lose a debate you revert to an aggresive neanderthal state. Hurling insults and expletives. I've seen that before also.

2. I have the book right here next to my laptop. 2009 ABA-LSAC Official Guide page 724, bottom right corner under tuition and fees RESIDENT 20,632 and NON 36,130.

Interesting. Might want to get your book checked, because I'd hate for you to find out you're several thousand dollars off the total when it comes time to pay your tuition.

+ fees, the estimation from Texas: http://www.utexas.edu/law/depts/finaid/costs/

EDIT: Oh, and if you're going to be aggressive (which you were), be aggressive. Don't be passive (read: whiny) about it.

Sorry to break up the debate. I got my status checker today. Any guesses on when I will get a decision. I am below median on LSAT but above median GPA. I am guessing I will get rejected. With they make it quick or wait list me? Just thought I would ask.

Clearly the website will reflect the 7% increase instantly while my 2009 book would not. But for arguments sake lets go back to the point of my numbers not getting me a full ride (Which you failed to address. I'm sure it was totally by accident and not the fact that through your limited vocabulary you failed to realize that my numbers clearly qualify me). So you say my numbers would only get me 60000. HMMMMM so being under 5% represented with my numbers and background don't qualify me for an extra 23000?

OK. What is this proving. If you look back at my post as I said I have the 2009 edition. The 2010 edition is what you linked which came out a couple months ago.

You may have to wait until the end of the cycle. Since your split you may get waitlisted soon.

You'd think a current UT undergrad, so close to the program, would at least have the fucking numbers correct.

Oh well, I bow out here. Have a good'n.

Yeah, probably not. But who knows, it's possible. The bigger question was how you managed to get "mostly full rides," in your words, from the rest of the schools (Columbia, Berkeley, on down). You're a special snowflake I guess.

And why would you keep quoting an old edition with an outdated figure for tuition? For the sake of argument? Speaking of "being a good lawyer."

Apparently I am a "special" snowflake. I see your one of those people like Barbara Grutter. Your so hung up on numbers you fail to see the impact that a persons background or circumstances have on their admissions prospects. Like the fact I maintained a 3.5 GPA while being called to deploy to Iraq last minute after add/drop period in diff 2 semesters while taking 17 hrs, the fact that i'm a single fathers raising a 9 year old. Being called to deploy to the Gulf Coast for Hurricane relief for Ike and Gustav while taking a full summer session. But hey your entitled to your thoughts of truth and lies. Thats what we fight for. Looking at your numbers it's clear that your the authority here to where people can and cannot get in. I'll be sure to refer people to you in the future. Good luck wherever you go.

This whole 3.6 cut off for scholarships - and seemingly acceptances so far as well - is getting pretty frustrating. I'm rocking a 3.5, but I feel like the private school that I attended has a serious issue with grade deflation, and I wish UT would take that into account.

That said, I'd have no problem paying the full instate tuition if I'm accepted. This is all just sour grapes, really :(

Pretty amazing
cities.[/quote]

:( I didnt mean to start an argument. I just want to know where I can get a 2/2 for $800 lol (I must be getting screwed on my housing). Where is it located? I might stay at UT if I could get that deal.

Oh wait....you say traffic isn't bad? You sure your talking about the same Austin and not Austin, MN? I guess its not bad compared to a parking lot or NYC...... I'll agree on the food though; whats your favorite place? The Clay Pit always sounds good but then when I go I always regret it.

Don't kill yourself worrying about this now. You did everything you had control over. It's out of your hands now. That "cutoff" crap is BS. Every school is different and every applicant is different. If it was ALL about numbers like people on this site want you to believe ( so your not competition for them) then alot of people wouldnt even apply. I'm not sure of your situation so i'm not gonna pull the jackass move of being an "internet expert" and saying your in or not but I will say that worrying at this point is a waste. I'm curious why you would want UT to take ur schools grade inflation problem into account with a 3.6?

I live at Westdale Parke Apts off Farwest/Mopac. --LinkRemoved--
The cool thing is the UT Shuttle picks up on both sides of the complex so you only walk 2 mins to a bus stop. The thing about Austin traffic is timing. Like Traffic on Mopac is only bad from about 7-9 and 430-630 or 7. Traffic on the other freeways are about the same unless it's a football day and you shouldnt even think about getting on a freeway going toward campus. My favorite restaurant is hard to place because there are so many choices. I like Kirby lane at 3am.lol. I also like Trudy's

Seriously? What are you waiting for?

Now there's a charge.
Just kidding ... it's still FREE!
