Crap. I just realized, that must be why my wife wants me to go to CORNell so bad.

They got to her!

I'm just trying to figure out why Cornell would be contacting students whose apps are in and asking them if they want to be considered "early action."

I applied "Early Action" and am trying to figure out what advantage it will give me when it comes time for them to make a decision on me.
I don't think there is an admission advantage, just more of the getting notified early. Since they must notify EA people by end of Dec. they likely ask people if they want to be considered for EA because otherwise they would not have the time to look at their app until after Dec.

That is my guess anyways.
That is sorta what I was thinking. I guess that is the general idea, except your not really guaranteed a decision (well, unless you consider being carried over to regular decision if they haven't decided on your app a decision, which is still better than a rejection).

I guess it would be helpful to know how many people fall into this category. If they are the vast minority, I can see the advantage to EA.

I've been waiting for my complete since 11/2, EA also. Hopefully I'll get that email soon.

Anyone else applying for JD/LLM? This was probably mentioned but - that's right - I'm far too lazy to read past posts.

From LSN, people have been notified as early as the very start of December.

Given how overwhelmed Cornell seems to be by the number of early apps, I wouldn't expect decisions to come out much before mid-December.

Agreed. They seem a bit behind, unfortunately.

Yeah, I got the snail mail waiver too, two weeks after I sent in my EA app. Despite knowing that it was only going to be a viewbook, my heart definitely skipped a beat when I saw the big package with "Cornell" on it.

 11/11/09, my bad. But the thought was there. I checked out my cart at 11:11 on LSAC, I'm hoping to channel some universal karma or something.

Cornell didn't waive my fee with a 172/3.5. is that normal?

So others who applied EA on or before 11/2 are still only "Applied" in the status check system?

I had mine in by 10/26 and just went EA complete on 11/13. Like someone said above, Cornell is seemingly a bit overwhelmed, or perhaps because they have a smaller admissions staff than most schools our expectations are a little too high.

Yup. Same boat.

It's my understanding, though, that you'll be fine as long as you were actually complete before the deadline, even if they don't have it as such in the system.

I called awhile back, and they were very nice and reassuring.

Got my fee waiver back in the mail today. It's nice to get a check for $80 in the mail, even if its $80 I already spent.

FINALLY went Early Action Complete today! It took sooo long! Granted, I literally submitted my app 11/02 at 11PM haha!

But still, it was a little nerve-wrecking not knowing what's going on.

P.S.: Does all y'alls status say this, too: Your JD Application is ready for review by the Admissions Committee. If your JD application was complete by the Early Action deadline, you should receive a written decision (Admit, Hold or Deny) by mid to late December. If your application was complete some time after the Early Action deadline then your application will be held over to the regular decision applicant pool.

Not that it matters that much for me, since they already confirmed over the phone that my app was received in time for EA, just thought it was a weird status...

I applied 11/2 and I'm still not EA complete. I'll give them a call if my status isn't updated by tomorrow morning.
