Good luck at Cornell! :D
WARNGING: When filling out the waitlist survey in your email make sure you complete it the VERY FIRST TIME you open it. If you do not, they will not get it.

I called about the waitlist to decision mistake, and it was just that. They said they never got my waitlist acceptance survey so they went ahead and withdrew my application. If this happened to you (ami) call them and let them know that you did fill out the survey and want to be considered on the waitlist. It seems that if you open the survey twice they do not get the results. If you did not fill out the survey and wanted to withdraw, then this waitlist offer extended to decision status checker reflects that withdrawal.

So did you receive an email confirmation, and STILL had them mistakenly withdraw your app???? Because I did get an email after I submitted the survey accepting the waitlist spot...

Yup. Like I said, if you sent off the survey (and got an email confirmation) yet your status checker says decision call them so they can manually put your app back into consideration for the waitlist.

Got it. I called and I am still on the waitlist. No decision made. Phew?!

She said they are having some weird internal problems ( you called it ) but that I should see my status update to Waitlisted sometime next week. They were so nice on the phone!

Their niceness doesn't make up for the fact that I am the only person with a 169 3.7+ gpa waitlisted on LSN. Hopefully I will get some individual attention once they have to go into my file and update it for the waitlist and get this injustice fixed. Just a number lost in the sea I guess, probably the norm at umich :P

Waitlisted today, so I just withdrew my app... good luck to people still waiting or riding out the WL.

Just came back from lunch to my WL e-mail. I'm actually pleasantly surprised. 169/3.4, with great softs. I submitted my app right around Thanksgiving and by now was basically just waiting for my rejection letter. :)

To be honest, I'm just super-relieved to have finally heard back from every school. Now all I have to be stressed and angry about is waiting for $$ info from EVERYWHERE.

also waitlisted (3.5, 172).

is this michigan giving everyone initial answers and closing up shop on admissions until after the deposit deadlines?

If I was on LSN, you'd see a waitlist for me, and I have a 169, 4+ gpa.

I got waitlisted in late Feb, and looking at how people are getting waitlisted left and right, I'm giving up any hopes of getting off of it. :(

Yeah, I kinda doubt the veracity of the WL email's claim that the list is small enough that Michigan's adcomms are intimately familiar with its denizens

As a former WLer, I disagree. They are fairly familiar with you guys, especially more so if you take the opportunity presented to send more information and let them get to know you better.

If I had to guess as to what's going on, I'd say they're trying to avoid overenrolling again like last year, and see how the class plays out. This happened around the same time last year, about a week earlier. Essentially everyone that was left either got WL'd or rejected, since there wasn't room then. I'm pretty sure they've been a lot more careful this year to avoid overenrollment, so I'd expect to see some WL movement as things fall into place. Keep in mind, traditionally 35-40 people were accepted each year off the WL, so last year's numbers were a huge abnormality.

I don't disagree with the sentiment that plenty of people will get in off the WL, but there seem to a ton of waitlists on LSN and TLS. Some of those overlap, but the LSN sample is not even a large percentage of the total number of applicants. The only way I could really see the existence of any sort of personal familiarity with the massive number of candidates would be if there has been a significant number of withdrawals already, which is entirely possible. While you're around, do you know if there is ever any money offered to people on the WL? I like Michigan, but sticker would be tough to swallow vs. 2/3 at a school I already like. 10k per year would probably dispel that entirely though.

It's really about the numbers. I'm not sure in you're case, since you're a splitter, but it's definitely possible with that LSAT. I don't think Michigan discriminates in giving out $$ (I know they don't with ED and deferrals), so if you have the numbers that would have gotten $$ in a reg decision, I don't see why the WL would change that. Waitlisted today. 3.57, 170 LSAT. I applied really late, so I was expecting a rejection off the bat.

They said they accept 35-40 people off the waitlist? I wonder how many people they put on it...

At least last year, they had said that traditionally the number was in that range. At it's peak I'd say it's in the 100-200 range, but certainly a number either don't accept, withdraw fairly quickly, or put in no effort (which is like a silent withdraw)

Interesting. Wonder what the chances are...

Gah, I still have 9 schools to hear from (not including UMich). I hate this uncertainty.

What go you mean "at its peak"? 100-200 accepts off the WL or that is the total number of WLed candidates?

Total number on/offered a spot on the WL, not admitted off of it.

Thats actually quite a small number. Were you admitted off the WL last year?

I was able to get deferred admission off it since they were overfull.

The FAQ section seems to suggest a not completely rosy picture:

"Candidates who receive offers from the waitlist receive consideration for need-based grants on exactly the same terms as those admitted earlier in the season, and most of our financial aid resources are devoted to need-based aid; people admitted from the waitlist , however, are less likely to qualify for merit scholarships."

It could be that we on the waitlist are "less likely to qualify" because, taken as a whole population, we have stats that average below the qualifying floors. Hopefully that's the case. But it could also be true that we're less likely to qualify simply because we are on the waitlist.
