Do you not still have the email they sent it in initially?

Obama does not need to ask Congress to repeal DADT; he can do it very simply himself with an executive order, and he's not up for reelection next year, making an executive order a much more realistic way of getting rid of DADT, if he really wanted to.
If he did an executive order the next president could just undo it and then what? Kick everyone out or back into the closet?
Quite simply, he could issue an executive order and then work to get the law changed. If he is committed to ending DADT, it's simple and an executive order doesn't cancel out any congressional action.

Sort of. He also has to instruct the Joint Chiefs to change Article IX of the UCMJ, which most people gloss over when discussing repeal. Ending DADT means nothing if it allows us to revert to a system where commanders can start discharge proceedings because of hearsay, or "ask" all soldiers if they are gay.

I think an EO ending all discharges, followed by a threat of a permanent end in 3 months if Congress doesn't act, is the best of both worlds :)

also i dont think he said he wants to end DADT, he just wants gays to be able to serve without HAVING to hide who they are. i'm not sure that those are necessarily the same thing.

So it would be "dont ask, but tell if you want to....we dont care...cmon...you know you want to...its seriously not a big deal....my cousin told"? That doesn't have the same snap to it.

I'm not sure how much he really wants to end DADT myself, but the SOTU quote was: "“This year, I will work with Congress and our military to finally repeal the law that denies gay Americans the right to serve the country they love because of who they are."

Anyone after the 26th hear anything about schollys? I'm not giving up hope yet. Also, everyone keeps saying there seems to be a 30k line, 45k line, etc what seem to be the stat cut offs?

The 26th of January? I'd say it's probably a bit early for anyone who was admitted this recently to hear anything regarding scholarships. Michigan sends merit award notifications some time after the initial acceptance package. As far as stat cut-offs for various scholarship amounts, I'm not entirely sure about those numbers, perhaps someone else has taken the time to compile this info? You might also check out LSN, I think some have posted up the amounts of their scholarship awards there.

A-hah! Well maybe I'm not the first on the waitlist. My status checker today is back to "complete."

Tonight my status checker says:

Decision Plan: Regular Decision Last Updated: Jan 26 2010

Status: Waitlist Offer Extended

I haven't received an email from them indicating this change in status, but I did get that general application status mass email from the dean a couple of weeks back.
Not sure why nobody has responded to this but...it would appear as though, yes, you are one of the first to be WLed by Michigan. I went and checked mine, but it still says boring old "complete."
I find it funny/slightly mean that they state waitlist "offer extended."

Thats bizarre. I assume if you are waitlisted they send you a letter or email as a follow up to the status checker?

Thanks! Is there any consensus on ASW? (or an 'in at michigan' thread where this might be a more appropriate question?)

Admitted Student's Weekend? There's been discussion in the Michigan 2013 thread about it. The majority seem to be going for the first weekend, but I'm not sure if spots are even available for that one still. There's a smaller minority on TLS that's going with the second weekend...

i don't really know what you mean by 30k line, 45k line, etc. for stat cut offs, because i've been away for about 100 pages, but i can tell you there's no strict gpa cutoff. my gpa is trash, and i got a 54k.

It's not a purely GPA line, or a purely LSAT line. It's likely an index line. I don't remember if Michigan posts their index formula (I don't think they do), but I think the LSP index for Michigan would do. I don't have the ambition, but if someone took the time to make a spreadsheet of Michigan acceptances from LSN, noting LSAT, GPA, LSP index and scholarship amount (omitting those with Darrows), I'd greatly suspect that the data would break down into neat little groups where those in one index range would get one amount, those in another another amount, etc. From there you could roughly determine where the cutoffs are for the scholarships...

What about timing? As in, early applicants vs those who apply in the middle or later. What kind of effect is there?

agree with the index, and in addition to that, i think Michigan also has preferences for certain undergrads. on my fee waiver letter, Z wrote, "we LOVE to get __ grads."

Seriously? What are you waiting for?
