Re: Georgetown 2013/ (2014)
Withdrew today.
It was an agonizing decision! In the end it came down to GULC and Vandy... It was tough to walk away from Georgetown, but Vandy felt like the right place for me to be. I will forever be jealous of the GULC gym, though.
Freed up $60k. Hope it goes to someone here.

I think what you said right there about Vandy completely means you made the right choice. I'm a big advocate of going to the school that feels like the right place.pearl_earrings wrote:Withdrew today.

Withdrew from my scholarship—but not my seat—today. Needed more time to make a decision, as I still have pending apps in the wild.

If true, that would have been valuable information about 4 months ago. Fail.Jackie O wrote:GULC does not consider part-time students for merit or need-based aid - regardless of how competitive an admitted student's application may beyeff wrote:What is the most $$ Gtown tends to give out?
I know there's a reputation for stinginess...
And is merit money generally offered for those in the part-time program, if their application is highly competitive/ with good leverage?
Any evidence of this? My correspondence with them suggests otherwise. If this were true, it seems they would have indicated it.

agreed that this would have been good to know earlier in the cycle...though part-time is still a better option for meyeff wrote:If true, that would have been valuable information about 4 months ago. Fail.Jackie O wrote:

I had asked about this at one of the law school forums and was told that PT students are considered for merit aid as are any other admitted student - then at the ASW in January asked about this in a PT student session and was told that PT students are never eligible for merit aid as it's expected that we'll be working blah blah (and definitely never considered for need-based)
I e-mailed GULC to further inquire about this, as it doesn't make sense to me as merit aid should be based on merits - not if you're working while attending ls, right? They said
I was told I would be added to a list of students interested in receiving a scholarship, but that was clearly a nice way of saying "thank you for your interest, but you are still not eligible"The Scholarship Committee began reviewing admitted student files for potential scholarship candidates, although only full-time students are considered.
edit (to avoid flooding thread): yeah chutzpah I have seen that on the report - which made the adcomms' affirmation that merit aid is never given even more disconcerting...

According to the ABA/LSAC data for Georgetown, 10 part time students were awarded "grants and scholarships" in the reported year (2008, I think)yeff wrote:

Re: Georgetown 2013/ (2014)
Just withdrew. Going to miss Andy Cornblatt's cute little emails commenting on the weather, but given that I let the financial aid deadline pass without blinking an eye, I think this was long overdue for me.
Good luck to those still waiting -- hope someone from here gets my spot!
(Totally random: While searching for the admissions office email address on the website, found this: http://www.law.georgetown.edu/admission ... 9GULC.pptx Not all the pictures would show up for me, but it's still adorable.)

...and just today got the really nice box with the fancy embossed fake-leather (or whatever... vinyl?) zip-folder thing containing booklet, brochure, map, and notepad. took them a while to send it (though i'm abroad so who knows when they actually mailed it), and i doubt it would have changed my mind, but is still really really nice.

I am a PTer. I have been reading and seeing that many people do not actually work. I plan on, at minimum, working a work-study job.jdmamba wrote:Any pt-ers here? Or, is there a pt thread? Need to start making plans to move to D.C. over the summer.

Any other PTers who put in an application at Gerwiz?
Yay GULC!

I'm sending my transcript and certification letter in. I'm trying to hold off on my deposit until the last moment, but it seems more and more likely that I'll be putting one of those down too.

Does anyone know the difference/relationship between "Dean's Tuition Grants" and "Law Center Scholarships"?

Re: Georgetown 2013/ (2014)
I got both. I'm pretty sure the grants are a combination of need and merit (maybe more need?), while the scholarships are just merit? I could be totally off, but that's how the phone call made it sound.IAFG wrote:Does anyone know the difference/relationship between "Dean's Tuition Grants" and "Law Center Scholarships"?

Hey, wondering if anyone can help with this.
If you accept a scholarship at GULC, are you required to withdraw from all waitlists?

PT FTW! I'll be working a job, maybe 20-25 hours/week in very non-legal employment.

Yes, put in the app. Not sure if I'll stick with it. But it seems pretty convenient to me.misspippers wrote:I am a PTer. I have been reading and seeing that many people do not actually work. Re: Georgetown 2013/ (2014)
Unless you received a different scholarship form than me, the answer seems to be yes, in a roundabout way. "I am pleased to accept Georgetown Law’s scholarship award and offer of admission. I understand that, in accepting this award and signing this form, I am committing to enroll at the Law Center and will withdraw any pending applications to and decline any offers of admission from all other law schools and will not initiate any new applications." Whether a waitlist counts as a pending application can be debated. Even so, if you were to be accepted off of the waitlist, you'd be required to decline the admission offer. The Pen Is Mightier wrote:Hey, wondering if anyone can help with this.
