There are only two bars in Westwood, and they both suck. This is important.

How cabbable/public transporationable are bars that "don't suck" from the UCLA campus/where students might be living?

You have to take a cab to either Santa Monica, Hollywood, Silver Lake or Culver City, depending on what your scene is. It can get quite expensive. The two bars in Westwood are ok for a typical Sun-Wed, but if you want to go out on the weekend to a fun spot, you pretty much have to take a cab. Those two bars just get really boring if you have been going fore a few months and didn't just turn 21.

$2 pints or $4 litres of Miller Lite aren't terrible at least, if you just want to watch sports or something.

I know we're getting into really intense specifics but any idea how long those rides are and/or how much the cabs to those places cost?


And I take this as you saying that public transportation does not service the Westwood/UCLA area at all? (I do plan on having a car but don't want to get a DUI as soon as I start LS haha)

The Metro is great if you live and work on one narrow corridor of the city, the buses are miserable, and there is no subway. You -need- a car.

There is a subway, but it is as shitty as the bus system and it wont take you far.

I understand that and I do really like driving and rather dislike public transportation in general. I am mainly referring to the whole drinking aspect of law school (even if the opportunities are few and far between) where driving is obviously not really an option

The bus will take you an hour to go where a car would take 15 min. Also, if you go out drinking in hollywood for example, the bus runs once an hour at best after like 10 pm, so you pretty much have to bite the $25 cab ride. As for the subway, the line is supposed to go to UCLA eventually and on to Santa Monica. You might want to check if you can defer admission for 20+ years.

meh. my cab ride home from downtown is 20$ right now. Unless we are talking about something >=30$, I'm willing to take the plunge. Specially if you split the cost of a cab 3-4 ways.

im from LA (born and raised) and i'm willing to take a few questions....

I can't break down scenes because there are dozens....every little corridor of LA has its own vibe.

You do need a car or to know someone with a Car.....i Love westwood by the way....and those of you who go to LA will also. Its BEAUTIFUL

Yes! I am 75th for GPA and <50th for LSAT but thought I had a decent chance with softs/UCLA program essay but I am starting to lose my mind

Lived in Hermosa Beach for awhile...the towns south of Santa Monica are fun more chill areas to get out of the city
