GPA above median, LSAT not- surprised at such a quick acceptance, i think i have a lot of things working for me thought (not to be cocky or anything, just a full resume, upswing to sustained 4.0, three solid rec letters....I knew I had to make up for my weak numbers)

LSN shows low 160's acceptances (several non-URM's). Will W&M subsequently drop in rankings?

They haven't sent out rejections to anyone yet, as far as I know. If Decision Pending = Waitlisted I'd be ecstatic, since I'm counting on a flat out rejection but hey, if I'm waitlisted (or accepted due to them quickly reading over my app and seeing a 7 where the 5 is) then it'll definitely prove my claim that they're purely numbers driven wrong.

Okay for all the whiners out there.

app submitted 10/26
completed 11/2
decision pending 11/10
Accepted 11/18

Numbers well below 25% percentile for both LSAT & GPA
significant WE (military 15 years, corporate 1 year)
URM with MBA

addendum explaining UGPA and well I graduated in 2001 GPA so the GPA is less important
LSAT addendum explaining that I was preparing for a deployment to the middle east while prepare for LSAT, and I was in the middle east conducting operations for the Sept retake

I wrote well crafted essays on why law school and optional essay on proud moment etc, diversity statement on the fact that I lived in or traveled to 15 different countries.
great cover letter and resume
military awards etc.

So they do look at the entire application because I'm an outlier in every respect of the word for admission to W&M.

The real question for everyone is what did you do to differentiate yourself from everyone else in the applicant pool, and how did you convey that message to admissions committee. If I got in it certainly isn't a straight numbers game. Good Luck to all of you.

Best post on the topic yet. Also why only 15 years and not the full 20?

Not to be a dick, but 95% of what you said could be reduced to "URM". I'm sure that your military service played a part as well, but the rest of that stuff, at W&M and all other law schools, means nothing.

jtgain - your cynicism is noted and appreciated, but people with 2.2 UGPA's don't go to law school if this is just a numbers game. Maybe it was my URM status as a Combat Veteran with 15 years if serve including over 4 years deployed outside the U.S. in the middle east and South East Asia. Maybe its the high tech/biotech/defense consulting experience and the MBA. Maybe it was the 44 semester hours my freshman year along with the surgeries, funerals and oh just being a midshipman at the Naval Academy. Any of these things make me an under represented minority in the applicant pool. No, you're right though 95% of it was the fact that I am a black male with a Puerto Rican mother. Speaking as someone that has watched the admissions process at other institutions adcoms don't take chances on statistical outliers like me unless there are significant 'softs'. My point is as I said in the original post. Its not just a numbers game. What have you done to differentiate yourself from the rest of the pool.

MoS - Its Complicated. I have 15 years of service time now, but only 9 count toward retirement. Since I'm seriously considering coming back in as Navy JAG I may hit that 20 after all.

My acceptance envelope came in a priority mail envelope with just my letter and an invitation to accepted students day. How depressing... Non resident tuition is just far too expensive.

I don't know what to think anymore about my chances at W&M. My status checker still says "Application Ready for Review" as of 10/21, and "Decision Pending" as of 11/2. My numbers are very competitive with those who have gotten in and received the 20K a year scholarship. Yet there has been no word or movement whatsoever since this status checker came up. I've gotten a few solid acceptances in the past few weeks to hold me over, but I can't for the life of me figure out why I haven't heard from W&M yet, unless I am actually getting WL'ed or rejected there.

Same here. It sucks. Kind of an ego killer but at least you know you are going SOMEWHERE.

The thread has figured out that "Decision Pending" is a black hole of waitlist/soft rejection; we're not really sure yet because no one's checker has moved from "Decision Pending" to anything else. If they admit you, then the status goes from "Application Ready to Review" to "Decision Rendered(something like that)" within a week-ish. I've been at "Decision Pending" since 11/9. It sounds like you're in good shape with your other offers. Congratulations!

Yes

3000/ year merit award
4000/ year stipend
+ in-state tuition (fellowship offer)

I plan to withdraw as soon as I hear back from UNC.

Seriously? What are you waiting for?

Now there's a charge.
