SO what you are saying is that the school raced to process my application, then made the decision to not make a decision until a perhaps undefined later date. Wouldn't it make more sense to say "Held" or something similar? I have decision pending at several schools now. If it means "We are waiting to see what our applicant pool looks like before making decisions on borderline cases like yours," wouldn't it be more transparent to let the applicant know?d-cannon wrote:Except that DP = you'll find out in March.gatorlion wrote:Status changed to "decision pending" today (1/28). I think DP mainly means its ready for review and at some point in the next few months they will make a decision, transparency would be nice but I doubt you will find much of it

Yes, but sadly William and Mary is not transparent. If you look at their LSN graph - http://wm.lawschoolnumbers.com/stats - you'll see no one has been waitlisted or denied yet even though they started making accept decisions in Sept/Oct.gatorlion wrote:SO what you are saying is that the school raced to process my application, then made the decision to not make a decision until a perhaps undefined later date. For this reason W&M has by far the crappiest admissions cycle.

I don't think law school numbers lists all acceptances, rejections, WL etc. It is just a sampling of self reporting potential students. Correct?

Hey guys, question. For the scholarship awards, there was a C-average stipulation-- does anyone have any data on how hard that is to meet? I ask b/c in the W&L email, they note that 80% of students continue to meet their scholarship award's stipulations and W&M didn't mention anything like that (which is now making me really nervous...)
And congrats to the new admits!!

That's right-- LSN is just a very small sample of what actually goes on.Emma1 wrote:I don't think law school numbers lists all acceptances, rejections, WL etc. It is just a sampling of self reporting potential students. Correct?

According to this site, only 5-15% in a class (with 30 or more students) will receive a C+ or lower. It seems that the C-average requirement will not be too difficult to satisfy.krispykitten wrote:Hey guys, question. Thank you so much! So not only is W&M now cheaper, it's also easier to keep my scholarship. So I sent in my application like 1/14
Current Status: Application Ready for Review
Current Status Date: 1/29/2010
Decision Status: Review Complete
Decision Status Date: 1/29/2010
Congratulations! Admit Packet Mailed 01/29/2010
Application is Complete/Ready for Review 01/27/2010
So Im assuming I mean that I am accepted? Kinda confused! And is a decision this quickly normal or did I just get lucky?

Got my acceptance in the mail today. I'm offered a Graduate Fellowship allowing me to pay instate tuition and 4k stipend. On top of that I got a 3k a year scholarship. I'm excited!

Same ol' same down here, minus the 3k a year. Seems like everyone in the thread who has been accepted so far has gotten the fellowship and 4k.timelovesahero wrote:Got my acceptance in the mail today. Still waiting to hear - I'm assuming it'll be with the rest of the leftovers in March, and I feel like it could go either way. Though the more time that passes, the more I think I'm losing interest...not because of the silence, just because of how my cycle is working out and where I see myself ending up. Hmm.

One other reason for the noncompetitive culture may be the generous B+ grading curve. A 2L gave this information about how it is structured:
A+: 1% of the class
A or A-: 15 to 25%
B+: 25 to 35%
B: 20 to 30%
B-: 10 to 20%
C+ or lower: 5 to 15%
So, it seems the halfway point would be something like a 3.16 (halfway between a B and a B+ average). So, a B average would put you in the bottom half, it seems.

Re: William & Mary
That's good to know, because they didn't have much info on the NALP page for W and M. However, W&L has a 3.38 (!) median with a 3.22 75th!!! Now, THAT is a friendly curve. UConn's curve is nearly identical to W&L as well. Still, it sounds like W&M's curve is very doable.klussy wrote:This is from the W&M TLS profile:Veritas wrote:Mine said a "B" average....krispykitten wrote:Hey guys, question. ya I think everyone got it.hopefulundergrad wrote:Did any admitted students get the email reminding you to withdraw if you have already committed to another school?
I called yesterday asking if I could get my scholarship upped by mentioning some higher ranked schools I've been admitted to and they said they'll look into and then I got the random email this morning.
