Re: Florida State 2010
The status checker says that those apps that are held will be reviewed again immediately after the april 1 app deadline. That is the same time that many seat deposits are due, etc. I have a feeling that a majority of those that are being held will be admitted following the april 1st deadline as people withdraw to attend other schools. Our numbers are too competitive at FSU for them to scrap our apps... they will shoot themselves in the foot that way. I think they are giving it their all to beat Florida this year.

Well yeah your 164 will probably take you off hold fairly quickly, but I feel like I am soooo borderline with a 161. It's funny though I got such a good offer from UM and they said I should be so proud of my credentials and then FSU is like "Haha, not so fast there! We're not THAT impressed." Ohhh admissions!!ram jam wrote:The status checker says that those apps that are held will be reviewed again immediately after the april 1 app deadline. Re: Florida State 2010
An FSU Law prof told me that they over-admitted for last year, because more people chose to go there once accepted than on average. So it's perhaps hard for them to gauge what their yield will be this year, because they do prefer a smaller class.Tuyarp wrote:An FSU 1L who has a friend in admissions told me that they are aiming to have a class of about 200 people this year, which is about 50 less seats than the previous year (she has 249 people in her class).mango26 wrote:wow, maybe they over-admitted too early in the cycle??ram jam wrote:Held with a 164, 3.1 and good softs, plus decent work experience, and Florida resident...
and is it true that they are cutting the class 50 smaller this year?

i actually couldn't care less if fsu is ranked higher or lower than uf, but i'm already tired of explaining to friends why i would choose fsu over uf, and i haven't even decided to go there yet.
ramjam, you are probably right that a lot of those being held will be admitted after the april 1 deadline, especially with a 164 lsat

I'm in the same position. I'm curious about your reason(s), though. If you don't mind, would you share them with me? 1. I have done government internships while in college and am interested in working in government after law school.Tuyarp wrote:I'm in the same position. I'm curious about your reason(s), though. 2. I have close friends attending both UF and FSU. They each like their schools, but I have heard the negatives too about both. Both of them think that I would be happier at FSU based on my personality, what I like to do, etc.
3. I like the small class size.
4. I hate Gainesville.
That being said, I'm still not completely decided on whether or not I want to move back to Florida. But if I do, I will go to FSU.

For me it is above all the location. Hours drive from other cities, nothing around for miles. Weather is not my favourite and in summertime you have to leave for work. I like to be closer to the ocean as well.
In addition I cant imagine being there as a graduate student.

Re: Florida State 2010
For those held: I think if you have over a 160 and above a 3.1 you will be admitted. FSU cannot go from accepting anything over 160 last year to waitlisting people that are being accepted at 30 something ranked schools this year. They are trying a new policy in order to move up in the rankings with scores and are probably concerned about class sizes for various reasons stated on this forum. Its a kneejerk reaction from FSU, a really conservative admittance policy foolowing, what it seems like, a very liberal policy last year. We will see...

For those going to Scholars Day, I just called admissions and asked about proper attire, and the nice lady I spoke to told me that it's business casual!

Re: Florida State 2010
for those of us who have been held,
I have wrote up a LOCI to send to FSU but should I send it via email or snail mail? They gave no directions on how to contact the school via the information on the status checker. Is anyone else going this route?

Business attire is terrible, I was totally going to wear jeans too until I called. This is why I want to go back home to the Florida Keys and wear flipflops and sandles to workminuit wrote:lol i don't think soTuyarp wrote:Can I act like I didn't know and wear jeans?

haha, i'm sure there will be some people in jeans. but, since they said business casual it probably isn't a good ideaTuyarp wrote:Can I act like I didn't know and wear jeans?

It doens't make sense to me. Wouldn't you prefer your prosective students to be as comfortable as possible for their visit? I realize business casual isn't exactly a five-piece suit, but the average college senior probably doesn't sport around in slacks, button downs and dress shoes all that much.
I mean, I know they have to prevent us UF folks from wearing jorts, but they could just stipulate that rather than enacting a business casual dress code.

Re: Florida State 2010
Business casual is not difficult, even for the laziest of college students. How hard is it to throw on a pair of slacks, button down, and sport coat? Give me a break. This is law school for crying out loud, you are going into a profession. Look halfway decent professional. It is not that difficult.
Seriously? What are you waiting for?
