If I'm just now submitting my app (I know, I know) should I choose not to do an interview since my file won't be reviewed until I do, should I choose the interview option?
Thx in advance for the advice.

I scanned mine in and then emailed it.kh86 wrote:I faxed mine.clint4law wrote:

edit:
I called admissions to see what they prefer. They said fax it or email it. but mine is for AJD and is due very soon, so there isn't time to snail mail it.

not to be a dick, but i think this one i'm going to keep to myself. this program is my top choice and i really tried to pull out all the stops to get off of hold and into NU. I just hope and pray it's enough.holybartender wrote:I'd also love to see an example of a LOCI, if anyone's willing

You just missed a great opportunity to give him a purposely terrible LOCI.fl0w wrote:not to be a dick, but i think this one i'm going to keep to myself. this program is my top choice and i really tried to pull out all the stops to get off of hold and into NU. Re: Northwestern 2010
i was placed on hold. if you are regular JD, i guess it depends on your scenario. if you haven't heard anything at all since you applied (didn't get a complete notification) you should probably call and make sure they aren't waiting on anything from you.MirandaHobbes wrote:for those of you sending LOCI, have you all been placed on hold? anyone sending one just because they haven't heard and REALLY want to show nu how much they <3 it?
All schools say they'll let you know if they are missing something, but they have a lot on their plate and honestly they will forget to let you know.
If you are complete and haven't heard anything for 8 weeks, i would be patient. it seems like decisions are coming weekly.
LOCI seems to be for WL or hold if you ask me. but hey, i dunno if you were specifically asking me so take it for what it's worth.

i've heard of people writing LOCI after they've been complete for three months or more and had not been WL or placed on hold. just wondered if that were the case with anyone here, though i guess with NU's practice of not looking at apps before dec. 1, no one is technically three months out yet.

So you are planning to do an on-campus interview? If you can, go ahead and do it. Even without an interview they won't be looking at your app until mid-March at this rate. Surely your interview would be before then.DarkwingDick wrote:If I'm just now submitting my app (I know, I know) should I choose not to do an interview since my file won't be reviewed until I do, should I choose the interview option?

Re: Northwestern 2010
Couple of things:
1. Last year, I priority mailed mine to the office. I had a tracking number on it so I knew when it arrived. Not sure if that's the preferred method this year as they seem to be really transitioning to fully electronic applications. Just do whatever the admissions office tells you.
2. If you actually want to go to Northwestern, you must interview if at all possible. They seem to stop doing alumni interviews after the fall, so I'm guessing the only option left is an on campus interview. Now, if you happen to live really far away or are in another country at the moment, that may not be possible. NU would understand that. But, just like with the work experience quirk, interviews are a big thing to Northwestern and if it wouldn't be a huge burden for you to do one, then choosing not to suggests you may not be serious about attending.
3. As for sending a LOCI when you haven't heard anything yet... I wouldn't. I would check in (once) to make sure that your application is complete. Don't be the person who calls the admissions office every day or every week to check on the status. They're busy at this time of year, and that just annoys them. Last year was kind of an odd year, application wise, but it seemed that everyone who wasn't an auto-admit or auto-reject was put on hold at some point. This was my timeline from last year, to give you guys an idea:
End of January (submitted application) ---> Beginning of February (complete) ---> End of February (on campus interview) ---> Beginning of April (placed on hold) ---> 3 days after being put on hold (sent LOCI) ---> April 23rd (roughly 2 weeks after sending LOCI, accepted)

Am I right to assume that there are still a lot of people past the 8 week review mark with no news yet?

Yes. My 8 week mark passed Jan 26th, and so far I haven't even had a "we're a bit behind, but working on it", email. I would imagine there are plenty of people in the same boat, as NU seems to have made very few decisions.

I also applied late but I am still interviewing with them towards the end of the month. As seriously as they take their interviews, I wouldn't even bother applying to NU if I wan't going to interview unless I had crazy good numbers and W/E. Good luck!DarkwingDick wrote:If I'm just now submitting my app (I know, I know) should I choose not to do an interview since my file won't be reviewed until I do, should I choose the interview option?

I submitted all of my applications in late September and sent letters in January to every school from which I hadn't received a decision. I can't imagine why it would hurt, and the authors of "Law School Confidential" agree.MirandaHobbes wrote:for those of you sending LOCI, have you all been placed on hold? anyone sending one just because they haven't heard and REALLY want to show nu how much they <3 it?

I think the only way it may hurt is that updating your application may push it to the back of the list for review (if the school reviews in order completed). I don't know that I would take the information in Law School Confidential as gospel.cutiewiddlebebe wrote:I submitted all of my applications in late September and sent letters in January to every school from which I hadn't received a decision.
