Yeah. I was surprised I got WL'ed too with my numbers. I really liked SMU. I have no idea what they might have seen in my app that led them to WL me. I did a Why SMU essay? Notre Dame, Arizona, and Indiana liked me. I just don't know why SMU didn't want to be friends with me too.

LOL
Looks like they are waitlisting everyone with 161-163 for FT.

I'm nervous. Have a 166/sub-3.0, with a solid addendum for that GPA, but it's still ugly. Very curious to see the result. 165+ has traditionally done well at SMU even with a poor companion, but that doesn't stop me from :(
I'm in your boat too. C'mon splitters!

ETA: WL. Looks like I'm the first 165 to not get in in the past few years. Ultra-depressing.
This makes 80 gazillion WL's for me.

That means I have a rejection letter in the mail then. Your numbers are significantly better than mine, and my status says decision rendered.

Congrats to everyone who got in!! I'm really jealous - I just got WL'd yesterday. SMU undergrad with 163, 3.7. Anyone have any thoughts on chances of getting off the waitlist??

Do you think it will help to take the June LSAT? When I called the admissions office for information about being on the wait list, they said that we couldn't submit any additional/updated materials for them to review.

I was FT only until last week when I asked them to consider me for PT too. Do you think they even considered me for the evening program? Is there a separate PT waitlist?

With so many low to mid-160s getting WL, it's obvious that SMU had a much stronger pool of applicants to choose from this year. Unfortunately, this also means that people who would normally be WL are being rejected out of hand. That said, there have been at least two 157s admitted FT today...so I guess all hope is not yet lost.

Yes, DR today (it shows 4/29 as the date): 157/3.6, FT/PT

I hate to be the pessimist, but I think this means we got rejected. With all these people who have 162s getting WL and that showing up on their status checker, I would be shocked if we got in. And also shocked if we were WL without it showing up on our status checkers.

Have to admit, that bugs a LOT, but clearly there was something about their apps SMU liked more than us with higher LSAT's. There was not a single person not admitted with my LSAT last year. This is humiliating :(.

Sorry about the WL, Keg, I'm also without an explanation.

What are your thoughts of getting of the waitlist? My numbers are very similar to yours and I'm WL'd too!!

So does anyone know what a WL means? Is it a death blow or do we still have a shot??

You're doing the best you can, Keg411. Recent years have just made for extreme decisions on the part both applicants *and* adcoms.

There are so many reports of people applying to more schools than normal that I think waitlists are bigger than normal this year, but will also see more movement as people get decisions from their top choices.

For those who received bad news today... I hope the rest of your cycle goes better and you are happy wherever you ultimately decide to go. Congrats to those who got good news today. And for those on the waitlist or still awaiting a decision - good luck!

In today, finally!

Now I'm wondering what to do as I have a $300 deposit due tomorrow for Texas Tech. I have full-ride from Texas Tech, and apparently it's not too difficult to transfer from Tech to SMU... I would attend with the intention to transfer to UT or SMU. Any thoughts???

What are your stats? and was it to FT or PT?

Further, I would like to know how hard it is to transfer into those schools from any of the schoools in Texas...

3.81/163, FT

I called UT today and they said if I was in the top 10% @ TT I would be competitive as a transfer applicant. Not sure about SMU though.

If you need more time to make a decision... pay the $300 deposit so you have time to sit down and really get your head around it. This is not a decision you want to make in a time crunch induced panic. Throwing away $300 is a small price to pay in order to be sure that you've made the best decision. (Assuming the deposit at Tech is non-binding.)

As for taking Tech with the intention of transferring to UT or SMU... that's a bad idea. If you enroll at Tech, you better be damn sure that you will be happy graduating from Tech. There are simply too many things that are out of your control. Nobody... no matter what their prior experience, LSAT score, etc... says, can reliably predict that they will be in the top X% of the class at any particular school. Just because someone got admitted to Harvard doesn't mean that they would be top 5% at TTT U.

Choosing Tech because of the scholarship may be the best option for you. But only if you would be happy with a degree from Tech.

If you really want to end up at SMU and you're using the transfer plan simply to try to save a year of tuition then you're really rolling the dice on a low percentage move. In my opinion, it would be foolish beyond believe to give up a guaranteed acceptance at SMU so you can go to a different school intending to transfer to SMU. Saving a year's worth of tuition would be cool and all... but the chances of it actually happening are low. You would be better off taking a year's worth of tuition and betting it on black. Better odds than counting on a transfer.

Seriously? What are you waiting for?

Now there's a charge.
Just kidding ... it's still FREE!
