My phone hasn't rung at all for more than three full days now. Very strange. But in a way it's fortunate because I don't feel compelled to jump up from my seat when it rings (which is what I would be doing).

In at SLS, got the nod yesterday by email.

Applied last week of September, complete as of first week of October.

Congratulations! You seem to be the only person notified by email so far. Are you an international applicant?

Me too. Don't sweat it; whether you get in December, January, February, March, etc. makes no difference.

how many of you guys tailored your PS to read like a "why stanford?"

I used my generic PS but changed the font to size 11 to give myself more space to include a pretty lengthy "Why Stanford" paragraph.

I did the exact same thing. And my "Why Stanford?" paragraph dovetailed nicely with the rest of my essay; it wasn't just some gratuitous language that I tacked on. I stopped short, though, of writing that Stanford was my absolute #1 choice--I couldn't really say that truthfully. I'd probably (but not certainly) pick Yale over Stanford. Also, I might consider going to a lower ranked school in the T14 in the event that I am offered substantial scholarship money

Well, ok, I'll take some opinions then. I didn't do any "why stanfording" in my PS. My plan had previously been, if I get waitlisted, to hit them with another semester of grades (might put me over 3.9) / why stanford / another rec.

Anyone think its better to submit a "why stanford" 1-page essay now?

I didn't submit a "why X" for any school, including Stanford, since I was told that it wouldn't make a difference to the top schools when they looked at my file. But that advice could be wrong. I suppose that I'll find out when trends crystallize after more applicants are notified.

They're not going to reject an applicant from Stanford UG above both of their 75ths.

Suh got robbed, in my opinion. But I didn't expect him to win.

In addition, I almost went to Colorado College. If CC was in Boulder, it would've been an easy choice.

Totally agree on CC-in-Boulder. I grew up SE of CSprings, so staying there was fine by me.

And Suh, while dominant, never stood a chance. I firmly believe that Woodson will remain the only defensive player to ever win the Heisman for another few decades. It sucks, because Suh is incredible. He'll have a better NFL career than any of the other 4 finalists, though, which is a pretty solid consolation.

Thanks! I'm an American, but living overseas at the moment in an unstable environment and inconvenient time-zone. My JR2 also came by email.
