I actually did visit and didn't find it particularly unpleasant. In fact, I was on NYU's campus this summer, and it felt (to me) just about the same as any other place in NYC. I did enjoy a few of the bars in the area, though, and it didn't feel too much like I would get stabbed, so I guess that's about as much as I could ask for.Helmholtz wrote: Have you visited there before? So no one had received a letter stating a deferral or rejection right? So this would mean that if we do not receive a letter sometime next week its bad news? I'm really hoping for that purple envelope on Monday....

Not necessarily. I would imagine there will be a second batch of acceptances.ChaotiCait wrote:So no one had received a letter stating a deferral or rejection right? Describe the difference to me. Unless you just mean the hipster thing, and god, it seems like there are hipsters EVERYWHERE these days.Helmholtz wrote:Really? Yeah, judging by last year, there was a pretty steady stream of acceptances the whole month.LieutKaffee wrote:Not necessarily. I'unno. Morningside Heights / the Columbia campus just seemed much calmer and laid back to me than the NYU area.puppins wrote:Describe the difference to me. The village is so much fun. You can go to Union square at 4 in the morning and see cool shit like a drum circle or random musicians. Bars are crazy, but there are chill bars too. Food all over the city is great. Art fairs every weekend when it's warm. The list goes on and on. Columbia's campus is nice too, but the village is bumping 24/7

I'm in Southern California so I can say that not every acceptance has been close to NY so far.js87 wrote:I'm indulging my neurosis here, but has anyone in Florida heard? Have most acceptances been in geographically somewhat close to NYC (as in, some decisions from this wave are still in the mail)?

Hey Helm, what's your hierarchy of choices if that CLS-ED doesn't come through? Just curious.Helmholtz wrote:You know me well.ClemCarter wrote:rockchalk86 wrote:the village is bumping 24/7

You must have really been turned off by the NYU atmosphere to have an entire school separating CLS and NYU in your mind. I had to spend weeks of anguish just deciding which NYC school I preferred, and they seem so similar in many respects. Then again, I suppose Chicago is more Columbia's peer than NYU is in terms of prestige.Helmholtz wrote: -Chicago

Cool to see Cornell on the list of schools you'd go to rather than sit this year out. It seems really fashionable to hate Cornell on this board, but I've always thought of it as a place at which I could legitimately see myself. Hard to blame you for cutting your list off at the T14. It's hard to fathom settling for less after putting so much effort and energy into all those applications, especially with all the "ITE" hype.
I take it you didn't apply to UCB?

Re: NYU 2010
For those not set on NYC biglaw, I don't think NYU offers any substantive advantage over Michigan/UVA/Penn. Not sure where Helm wants to practice, but his ranking of Chicago and the NYU/Mich/Penn is pretty on par with mine (although I have Mich over Penn/NYU) and I'm pretty set on not going to NYC.LieutKaffee wrote: You must have really been turned off by the NYU atmosphere to have an entire school separating CLS and NYU in your mind. Edit: NYU does have a fantastic LRAP.

Re: NYU 2010
No, I didn't. I probably should have seeing as they actually seem to tolerate lower GPA's this year in exchange for high LSAT's. I think the Penn/Mich/NYU tier for me has to do more with Penn and Mich moving up in my mind rather than NYU falling. NYU's redeeming qualities for me are 1) their amazing faculty and 2) their NYC biglaw placement.LieutKaffee wrote:You must have really been turned off by the NYU atmosphere to have an entire school separating CLS and NYU in your mind. Yeah, if anybody has reason to hate Cornell, I would be one of them (got my deferral last week). I could possibly see myself at UCLA was a sizable scholarship or a full-ride at WUSTL, but I'm really not comfortable paying anything close to sticker outside the T14.
Seriously? What are you waiting for?
