In a LOCI, would it be inappropriate to explain why one prefers CLS over NYU despite an interest in PI?

Yeah, this would be a good thing to know.

Yes, it would be strange. I would just talk up specific CLS programs and how they'll help you reach your PI goals.

I think that it would be strange, because I guarantee that the CLS adcomms don't view their school as deficient vis-a-vis NYU in terms of PI opportunities.

You also had a 180. I think they might imagine taking a risk with you could be worth it.

Parents got nothing in the mail today except for a rejection from Michigan. I think I just made it pretty clear from my Michigan app that I didn't actually want to attend. Still a little jarring though. It would be nice to have an acceptance from a T6 school, or any T14.

Sorry, forgot to respond to this. No acceptances from any T14's yet. Just two from W&M and USF, both of which I applied to for personal reasons, but do not plan to attend.

Just throwing another example out there.

(Unless your point was that the "yield risk" CLS took of possibly losing dutchstriker to NYU's supposed PI focus was worth it for the potential gain of his/her 180... in which case, nevermind, cause CLS doesn't really have to worry about my 169 being snatched up by NYU )

What's been the trend with grade requests so far? Do these people tend to get in, waitlisted, held, etc.?

Recently waitlisted at UVA, and the only school i've gotten into so far is a safety, so i could use some good news...

I suppose, but they also gave me a Hamilton. They could have held me like they've done to others with LSATs close to 180.

I had decided not to send a LOCI unless I didn't hear back until March, but I'm cracking under the strain and getting ready to send one before getting a decision. How long are you guys making yours, & how are you formatting them (single or double-spaced)? I will probably keep mine short, since I don't have much to report other than fear and desperation (and some interesting things at work), but that's about all I know at this point.

It never changes from complete. That is the last status update you get.
