Very possibly TCR. They could have spent much of today talking with the Financial Aid people about who made the cut for the scholarship.D Brooks wrote:

Looking at the TLS LS bio of Chicago, I don't think they care about what you write in the essay. I think that they care that you actually took the time to write one.managamy wrote:Very possibly TCR. 3. University of Southern California
4. University of Texas, Austin
5. University of Florida
The back said: "The Bottom 5 Party Schools in the U.S." and the list was (exactly this time, the Top 5 were random):
296. U.S. Air Force Academy
297. U.S. Military Academy
298. BYU
299. U.S. Naval Academy
300. University of Chicago
And she wore it proudly!
I only know one guy who went to UChicago undergrad, and although he has some pretty nerdy interests, he's an amiable and good-humored guy. He's at the law school now. I don't doubt that you're probably right about the seriousness/humorlessness of the undergrad, though -- "one guy" is an awfully small sample size.
The law school is also reputed for being cerebral, but thankfully the consensus seems to be that it's not as harsh as the undergrad. And being cloistered and nerdy in grad school is not full of fail as being cloistered and nerdy in undergrad -- hopefully we've all "found ourselves" by now. As someone who wants to go into academia, and who has interests in Legal Philosophy and Law and Economics, I probably would have chosen UChicago over every other school but Yale. (Yes, really: for me, UChicago's intimate, shamelessly intellectual environment trumps Harvard's superiority in other measures.) The only regret I have about EDing to Chicago is the thought that I might have been able to use an NYU/Columbia acceptance to wring scholarship money out of the school I'll ultimately attend.

Fuck, can we please, please replace TITCR with "right"? Are the girls at UCSB hot? I've heard mixed reviews. How do they compare to USC?

OK, I was away from e-mail for several hours, and I've come back to find 1) no news from Chicago in my e-mail inbox; 2) a discouraging tweet from Chicago; and 3) all kinds of crazy stuff in the Chicago thread. The girls at UCSB are less attractive, about equally as intelligent, much poorer, and more infested with STDs.crackberry wrote:Are the girls at UCSB hot? I've heard mixed reviews. How do they compare to USC?

Theoretically, it does, but I would imagine that they would have explicitly said "tomorrow" if they meant "tomorrow."jumpinjackflash wrote:does "within the next few days" from twitter mean that could be tomorrow?

I think they want to keep it an open possibility. For all we know, they could've wished to have made the calls today, but since they were busy, they had to put it off. This could also happen tomorrow.
