Didn't you cover "Why Harvard?" in your JR1?doomcannon wrote:Coming out of the lurk-closet. Any thoughts on post-JR1 LOCI at this point?
I had a JR1 in early Feb but haven't heard anything since. I think I have a decent shot numbers-wise (both ~75ths) but have obviously missed 2 months worth of Mondays at this point. re: letter material, my personal situation hasn't changed much, but I never wrote a "why harvard" either. I do think it would be a great opportunity to have access to/work with the Berkman Center. Heard the rest of the law school is OK too.
I'm not sure what point a letter would serve except to reaffirm my interest; is that necessary with/desired at a top school like Harvard?

Re: Harvard 2010!
I found it cathartic to follow up on my JR1 and make it clear that HLS was my first choice. If I get a JR2, will it be because of my LOCI? Highly doubt it. But if I get rejected/WL'd, I'll have closure that I played all the cards I had.doomcannon wrote:Coming out of the lurk-closet. Any thoughts on post-JR1 LOCI at this point?

i'm still under review 1/22, I think. I'm just trying to figure out why it's taken them so long to reject me ... good softs? lolUnitas wrote:Not so subtle anti me post... Also, how many people in here are just at under review still? They must have already completed all the applications from before the deadline by now. Right?

According to the LSN stats from last year, the WL fiesta should begin in mid-April.

Re: Harvard 2010!
I'm not sure how relevant last year's stats are because of the new dean and the hold process. According to last year, basically everyone is screwed at this point apart from a very small few (i think 4 outright admits later than this time last year)...but that scenario seems unrealistic considering how many people are held. I think HLS probably has about 10% of the admit pool to go.legalnoeagle wrote:mcm814 wrote:So i know that they've dragged this whole thing out pretty long in the past with waitlist, etc. but when do you think we can reasonalby hope to hear something by??? well, not to be a downer, but i'm a JR1-hold HYP 171/3.9, but i think it is sort of a good sign that i know a lot of HYP holds as of now (including you), which means there is an outside possibility that they haven't made final decisions about our pool yet....or maybe they're just WLing a slew of us.amolson04 wrote:you really think so? even with my crappy gpa? How many others on here have heard absolutely nothing since their complete e-mail?
I went complete somewhere in mid Feb, and have been in the dark ever since.

Anything is a possibility, I don't think it's likely, but it's possible. You definetely would need to bring something else to the table (ie. strong softs) other than your #'s though.

Re: Harvard 2010!
Just got a hold email, totally unexpected. Complete 1/13, 168/3.8 non-URM with some decent softs.
Why hold so late in the cycle, why not just waitlist or reject?

This points to the possibility of a date where a slew of decisions come out, and they're just holding people if they need the extra time to consider them (rather than auto-rejecting).

Re: Harvard 2010!
Sorry I've been MIA for awhile, grad school is time consuming. I'm guessing there are others who applied on the very first day apps opened, were held in the very first bunch without a JR1, and at this point want to /themselves re: the silence/indecision?
Okay good, just checking.

Re: Harvard 2010!
If you look back at earlier years on LSN there are a lot more acceptances out of the hold group than last year. The timelines don't all match up either, though most cycles were done with outright admits before April. I believe this all just points to the fact that this year is a bit of an anomaly, and that we won't be able to predict any outcomes based on the past.

Re: Harvard 2010!
I have no idea what you are talking about here.. I think they have accepted four held applicants that we know of... Last year I also don't think they did this hold business, especially at this level.eattrucks wrote:If you look back at earlier years on LSN there are a lot more acceptances out of the hold group than last year. I do agree that the timelines don't match up and last year they had a lot more offers out at this time...
BTW, wanted to say sorry to everyone that got rejected today. Most of you have a lot of other options at this point so good luck. To those held today, welcome to the club. If we weren't scattered around the country we could get together..
Seriously? What are you waiting for?
