I just got deferred. I guess I'm supposed to feel lucky because I've been "offered a place" on a "Priority Reserve list". Yay...go me. It sounds so exclusive. Who wants to be accepted, when you can be "priority reserved?" Sweeeeet.
For the record, I'm above both 75ths.

My status changed to "decision made" at some point earlier today. No e-mail yet, does anyone know how long the delay usually is?

The finger crossing worked! Applied PT in October, got a request for Fall grades, and finally received the acceptance. 176 3.7. By the way Dean Hoye is awesome!devilishangelrjp wrote:No, but my fingers are crossed for you.lawblahblah wrote:My status changed to "decision made" at some point earlier today. Priority reserve. Didn't write a why duke, with a 178/3.6 I can only imagine its a YP. Didn't know they did that. Whatever.

It seems like Duke has really expanded the priority reserve list. I think in prior years, it was a very small group. This year, it seems like hardly anyone has received a standard WL.

Re: In at Duke!
Does everyone really write the why duke. I didn't and get PRed with a 178/3.6. Whatever, but just wondering if not writing a why duke shows an unusual lake of interest or is fairly common. Just making sure the PR was result of lack of interest and not a bad application.Torvon wrote:Well the one applicant in question didn't write a "Why Duke?", so that probably goes a long way in showing little to no interest. If they were rejecting everyone with those numbers and only accepting people with higher numbers I would buy into the whole "more competitive year" explanation but that isn't the case. I dunno, did you two accidentally include a "Why X?" for a different school in your Duke applications? Seems to be the most plausible explanation thus far.hiro86 wrote:Duke is not doing any YP as far as I can tell. Look at the graph on LSN. It's possible they are doing YP for a few random cases where they somehow decide the candidate has no interest. But, I have no idea how this would work. The only strange thing Duke tends to do is not give PT to people with YP level numbers.

Re: In at Duke!
Perhaps with your numbers, a "why Duke" might have been good. With my numbers, it looks like I'm begging for admission (and I really am not above begging). With your numbers, any of the other places you applied to could accept you, and a Why Duke letter might go a long way to reassure the admissions committee that you are really interested. I mean, if you're interested in someplace, you should be able to explain why.of Benito Cereno wrote:Does everyone really write the why duke. I didn't and get PRed with a 178/3.6. Yea, I wasn't really all that interested to be honest. But I got a fee waiver and thought I'd apply and see if I got some money that maybe I could use to negotiate at wherever I end up going. But I'm just worried that its a flaw in the application (as I got held at Michigan too) and not YP (especially as Duke doesn't seem to do that much). However, if most people write Why Duke maybe I just pissed them off by not doing it. Anybody get in with CCN+ numbers and not write a why duke?devilishangelrjp wrote:Perhaps with your numbers, a "why Duke" might have been good. I don't have an LSAT nearly as good as yours, but I have CCN numbers and got in with no Why Duke. But you have potential for CCN $$ which may have made a difference in Duke's eyes. Plus it's later in the cycle and Duke seems to be putting more people with high numbers on reserve now than they did earlier.of Benito Cereno wrote: Yea, I wasn't really all that interested to be honest. For everyone that has received a decision--did your status change to indicate that the decision was coming, or for some people did it still say under review even after the e-mail had arrived?

I'd rather be in your position (especially the gpa). I'm going to get YPed everywhere but CCN and you get in with $ all over. Puts you in a much better position to negotiate at CCN. Plus you stand a much better chance at HYS.maggiebre wrote:I don't have an LSAT nearly as good as yours, but I have CCN numbers and got in with no Why Duke. Does it help or hurt my chances if I applied for the May 2010 entrance for the joint jd/llm? my numbers are lower than medians so I'm pretty sure im not getting in anyway, but just curious.

Re: In at Duke!
I also did not write a separate "Why Duke" essay and got priority reserve with a 3.82/173. And someone else who had a 3.83/174 also got priority reserve on Friday. I did have a "why Duke" paragraph in my personal statement, but not an entire essay about it.of Benito Cereno wrote:Does everyone really write the why duke. I didn't and get PRed with a 178/3.6.
