Re: In at UC Irvine
someone (nevdash) on LSN with a 3.54/167 who didn't send their app 'til 2-24-09 apparently got waitlisted. ((srsly wonder what their softs were...?)) all those accepted seem to have had their apps in by the end of '08 or by jan 5 at the very latest though.

UGHHH... anyone else still hanging on to this sinking ship?
How about we just start our own law school with super smart, idealists? We can do it. (Yes, that was Rob Schneider in any given Adam Sandler movie style). And Naive Kid - hey, you never know...it ain't over til the fat lady sings, and I have nary heard a note....

Re: In at UC Irvine
I've said this before, but I think it merits mantra in the law school application process: We should come to terms with the fact that, with thousands of applicant files piled on desks, even the best admissions system can't avoid some element of randomness. These are humans making the decisions, after all.naivekid1986 wrote:someone (nevdash) on LSN with a 3.54/167 who didn't send their app 'til 2-24-09 apparently got waitlisted. Someone who is busy, having a bad day, needs to use the restroom, about to have lunch, arranging a liaison with a mistress, sick, etc. may just happen to have picked up your file. Oh well.
Or maybe there was a meeting this morning and it sounded like maybe they should have a few more on the waitlist. "Well, that file I just looked at seemed pretty promising."
ad infinitum.

It looks like they've already filled their class. Median numbers are 167 LSAT and 3.65 GPA.

"UC Irvine accepted only 110"
What was the number accepted in the first round?

Re: In at UC Irvine
UCI did a great job with its inaugural class...Congrats to all those who are attending...i am very envious.
While UCI should be proud, the stats the school gives are misleading...The low acceptance rate and high yield rate are the direct result of a class size of 60...I wonder what these numbers would be if the class size was around 200 students...It would be really amazing if they could pull similar numbers with a more normal class size.
Good luck to everyone starting at UCI Law in the fall.

WOW, that's some great spin. Gotta love PR. I'm not even being disgruntled or sarcastic over here. That's a serious PR team they have there. Nice way to make the best of only having 60 slots.

I wonder if they are accepting transfers for this upcoming fall as well, so they have a 2L class...

No, they are not. It's only one, incoming 1L class that will progress to 2L class in 2010.

how do they already know their medians? doesn't it seem they could be greatly impacted by waitlist activity by having such a small class?

Looks like anybody on the waitlist is out, since they already have something like 68 accepted and committed, and they were only planning a class of 60 or 61.VictoryFord wrote:how do they already know their medians? doesn't it seem they could be greatly impacted by waitlist activity by having such a small class?

Re: In at UC Irvine
166/ 3.5 Application mailed 2/27, LSAC report finished 3/13 and waitlisted late March or early April, can't really remember. But I had to get the waitlist acceptance in by May 1st, so I assume the second round starts then.
Hope that answers some questions about late applications and scores playing a factor, since I seem to have both working against me if I listen to most of the conjecture here. Must of been my pretty smile and lightly-scented paper that did the trick.

I haven't heard anything either, I've decided my rejection letter got lost in the mail. I also never heard that I went complete, did anyone who applied late actually get confirmation that they were complete?

They have done so many rejections that they are probably out of paper/ink. That's the likely reason for the delay.

Hi Everybody...
I told you all I'd come back and let you know about the ABA 9th Circuit Law Student Division Lt. Governor Appointment - and good news - I got it!!!
So, I am officially the ABA Law Student Division 9th Circuit Lt. Governor of Membership! This means, that I WILL in fact be working with you all to help you - if you want of course - navigate and prepare for entering the ABA Law Student Division in the 9th Circuit.
I emailed Dean Ortiz a couple of times and have not heard back yet, but I'll try once again and let her know I got it. Also, a couple of you PM'd me already, so I'll PM you back, but I just wanted to share the great news!!
Best of luck to the inaugural class, and again, please let me know if I can be of service or assistance to you in setting up your Student Bar Association, Student Organizations or any other help you need. I was the Vice President of our Student Bar Association and the President of our Jewish Student Union and the Treasurer of our Lawyer's Club (among other board activities over the past couple of years), so I have experience in all aspects of law school leadership. You can consider me one of your 2L mentors that you won't have coming in - but I'll be available to you as one if you want it.
Cheers,
Alleycat13
