Re: Anybody heard back from SMU?
My fiance got admitted to the PT program two days ago. They called her at 4:45 pm and said they were overnighting the materials. She is going to attend and like the person before added PT to her application after she was waitlisted. Good luck to everyone else...

Re: Anybody heard back from SMU?
I am new to TLS but, like most of you, am waiting anxiously to hear from SMU. Here is some info that I have received from SMU and some others on the wait list.
After sending a LOCI I called to see if I could make an appointment to tour the campus as well as speak to an admissions rep. I called last week asking for an appointment sometime this week. They said that they have been seeing people on the wait list since the beginning of June and didn't have a spot for me until the 24th. I am driving up to Dallas next week to have a tour and hopefully sit down with someone. SMU is and always has been my top choice school and I'm hoping something good comes out of it.
I spoke to someone that went on a tour this week and they said that SMU has begun looking at wait list candidates but they weren't able to find out if and when people will be notified.
Has anyone been on one of these tours and had the opportunity to sit down with someone?
Best of luck!

I am worried about this; I cannot afford to fly to Dallas [+car rental and + hotel] due to the fact that I am trying to save as much money as I can for my eventual move, but remain extremely interested in SMU... I hope that they do not interpret my inability to visit them as disinterest - any recommendations?rachel.almaraz wrote:I am new to TLS but, like most of you, am waiting anxiously to hear from SMU. I guess my only advice would be to send in LOCIs and ask if you can possibly speak with an admissions rep over the phone to ask some questions about the wait list where you can express your interest.

I think that you'll be okay. Of the 4 WLs that I was able to find my way off, I only visited one school (and I am not even attending that school).I am worried about this; I cannot afford to fly to Dallas [+car rental and + hotel] due to the fact that I am trying to save as much money as I can for my eventual move, but remain extremely interested in SMU... Just be sure to follow-up with a solid LOCI. Try to link characteristics / qualities that you have to something unique / personal about SMU (it could be clinics, a focus in a certain subject matter, etc) and if you truly mean it, write and let them know that you will attend if admitted.

Re: Anybody heard back from SMU?
I visited SMU, and frankly, it was a waste of time to fly down there. They person I was supposed to sit down with was 'booked' despite me having an appointment. I more or less pleaded with them saying I had flown all the way down there.
I sat down, and pretty much pled my case opposed to an actual interview. This was April 1st, prior to Waitlist. I don't have around 3-5 bills to drop on another visit.

Re: Anybody heard back from SMU?
I agree with BigA. Even when I was very strongly considering SMU, the Dean / Director of Admissions had absolutely no interest in even meeting with me. On the day that I scheduled a visit, I was given the impression that I was both wasting their time and being an incredible inconvienance.BigAristotle wrote:I visited SMU, and frankly, it was a waste of time to fly down there.

Did anyone receive any news from the wait list this week? Any ideas as to when they'll start letting people know?

No news here...on LSN, someone got WL, rejected...not sure if this is legit or not, but has anyone else been rejected from the waitlist?

Visiting SMU this afternoon. Hoping to get some answers on the wait list (when we should hear, how many on the list, etc. etc.) Anything else you guys think I should be asking? What are the chances I get to sit down with someone from admissions? For some reason...I'm thinking it's pretty unlikely. *Here's to hoping*

Re: Anybody heard back from SMU?
They might not tell you, but you should ask if there is a deadline for double-deposited applicants to decide if they will attend SMU. If there is a set deadline (ex: 7/1), there could be some waitlist movement if people choose other schools. Good luck with your visit.rachel.almaraz wrote:Visiting SMU this afternoon. Re: Anybody heard back from SMU?
Soooo...I just got back from my visit at SMU and it was amazing, first of all, but not too much new info. They couldn't tell me how many people were on the list, how many they anticipated to be accepted off of the list, or even how many people last year were accepted off of the wait list. There is not a second seat deposit deadline so whomever was accepted was required to submit their deposit on June 1st. They said that they are still going through all of the accepted students to see how many did not send a deposit in. The admissions counselor that I was able to sit down and speak with told me that they are constantly having people call in asking to be taken off of the wait list (she already had three e-mails today) and anticipate some accepted students to withdraw after July 1st when other schools have tuition deposits due. She also told me that it could be any time that we receive a phone call (not mailing or e-mails) up to the first week of class. They are looking to diversify their entering class, which is how they will determine who will come off of the wait list...since it is not ranked in any way.
Everyone was really nice, which doesn't make my coming to terms with the potential of not be admitted any easier. Doesn't seem like there is a whole lot else we can do to get off the wait list. Hope that answers some questions, if you have any more...let me know and I'll try to answer while I still remember.

Wow, thanks for all the info! I guess we're no better than where we started, but oh well. Who did you speak to in the admissions office? Are you planning on hanging around till the first week of class for an acceptance???

Re: Anybody heard back from SMU?
I spoke to Maggie who is an admissions counselor. I would love to wait around but my distant second choice is American in DC so I would have to get up there and find a place to live. Hopefully it won't come to that though.thiscyclesucks wrote:rachel.almaraz wrote:Soooo...I just got back from my visit at SMU and it was amazing, first of all, but not too much new info.
