Does anyone know if a similar email was sent last cycle?

I received the email too. My best guess is they are currently being overrun with calls and emails and wanted to put the concern to rest in one fell swoop. I wouldn't read into it too much. I'm happy to know that they are aware of my existence!

I've been working through the 2020 thread from Christmas on this morning. I'm currently in mid Feb and no such email was reported.SopranoSaxophone wrote:Does anyone know if a similar email was sent last cycle?

Received the email too. Don't think its indicative of anything other than the volume of paranoid emails they have received and are seeking to pre-empt moving forward.
Also, has anyone who went UR2 on 12/14 (of after) been admitted? I know that there was a big wave just before Christmas that admitted many of those UR2 on 12/12 (and earlier) but wondering if anyone UR2 later had received good news yet.

Some people lat year who didn't get the email, or at least right away, and were under review saw that it was sent when they looked at the mailing section on their status checker.thepsychedelic wrote:i didn’t get an email and i’m UR2 im unsure how to feel about this development

I'm UR1 since early December and didn't get anything in my email or status checker! This is such a weird situation. I'm gonna resist worrying about it though since it's impossible to tell what we can learn from the email.usaorbust wrote:Some people lat year who didn't get the email, or at least right away, and were under review saw that it was sent when they looked at the mailing section on their status checker.thepsychedelic wrote:i didn’t get an email and i’m UR2 im unsure how to feel about this development

Another data point:
Applied 10/20
UR2 12/22
Got the still-under-review email today
My hard stats are a serious reach

Same here. UR1 11/30, nothing since then, didn't get the email and nothing changed on my status checker just nowfohner wrote:I'm UR1 since early December and didn't get anything in my email or status checker! Re: NYU c/o 2021 Applicants (2017-2018 cycle)
To channel my stress into something productive, I just went through last year's board and cross-referenced the username of every person who got the hold tight email with LSN profiles. I was able to find 7 matches, so my data set is a paltry 7 people. Here's what I found:
Everyone lists a waitlist for NYU on LSN. It breaks down like this.
Waitlist (eventual acceptance) - 2
Waitlist (eventual rejection) - 1
Waitlist (No further updates) - 4
Take that for what you will. I'm not too optimistic about it, but there you go!

Regardless of the 7 person data dump, I don't think receiving or not receiving the email confirms or implies anything.

Does applying for a special scholarship delay your admissions process? UR1 since mid-November.
I also did not receive the "pseudo ding" that many have seen today.

Can’t delay it much longer - the invites for the programmatic scholarships come out next month.sharris2017 wrote:Does applying for a special scholarship delay your admissions process? UR1 since mid-November.

I also got the email today (UR2 early Dec). I did not write a why NYU with my app. Given my newfound neurosis based on the possibility of waitlist with this email, should I write a Why NYU? Is it too late to write one since I'm so far in review?

I didn't get that email today. Based on my stats though, I expect to be waitlist-bound.

I would not. I think the whole point of the email was to decrease the amount of correspondence they’re getting from us. Just my two cents.TheMule wrote:I also got the email today (UR2 early Dec).
