I got the same email. I wonder what they are trying to do. Screen for fee waivers or recruit for ED?principalagent wrote:Did anyone else get a request to interview from WashU today? I did, which I found pretty out of the blue. Has that happened before? Curious as to if I should take it or just wait for application season to begin.

I got the WUSTL mail too for the interview, but actually I don't think I'll schedule an interview... I know that WashU on this forum is broadly appreciated due to great balance scholly/ranking, but I'd rather go fishing in Alaska for 3 years than living in Missouri - especially for career goals (need an international environment)... Am I crazy?
Another question: the "Why X" essay si basically the PS you send to some target school or you can send a PS and a Why X? And again, isn't it a good idea to basically put a paragraph of "why X" in every PS you send to >#10 school? Just guessing...

I'm not doing the interview either for the same reasons. WUSTL just doesn't mesh with my goals.InterLaw wrote:Checking in!

It could be good for interview prep, or down the line, pushing up scholarships in the 14-17 range of schools to help negotiate in the T14. Just to think about why the interview may be good even if you have no intention to attend.InterLaw wrote:Checking in!

The Why X essays are generally separate. Cornell's Dean of Admissions, who recently retired, said they don't really care for PS's that are specific to a school, and that they may not even help.InterLaw wrote: Another question: the "Why X" essay si basically the PS you send to some target school or you can send a PS and a Why X? When people refer to Why X essays, they mean an additional essay to supplement your PSInterLaw wrote:Checking in!

Thank you both!principalagent wrote: The Why X essays are generally separate. Cornell's Dean of Admissions, who recently retired, said they don't really care for PS's that are specific to a school, and that they may not even help.
Yeah I thought about that, but aren't they mainly interested in this cycle? I mean, isn't it too early to start now? I think I could do it, but maybe when the cycle begins... Based on the amount of e-mails wustl sent me, I think they would interview me even in november!principalagent wrote:It could be good for interview prep, or down the line, pushing up scholarships in the 14-17 range of schools to help negotiate in the T14. This is true too. I'll just shoot an email of my own off to see if this is more about 2017 or 2018 admission or if it's really just informational.InterLaw wrote:Yeah I thought about that, but aren't they mainly interested in this cycle? Would you keep us updated on that?principalagent wrote: This is true too. I'll just shoot an email of my own off to see if this is more about 2017 or 2018 admission or if it's really just informational.
