Re: Harvard Law c/o 2020 Waitlist
Had my JS1 this morning with Kelly. Very friendly interviewer.
All are regular post-WL JS1 questions:
1 Current job
2 Interested area of law
3 Why Harvard
4 Current deposit status
Kelly also did not mention when I will hear back.

Did they ask if you were deposited at another ls or more just general "would you really commit to us?"Aldrich wrote:Had my JS1 this morning with Kelly. Very friendly interviewer.

Received the same this afternoon. Uncertain about what it really means but happy they would like to talk again.

Tangential question but the way it's addressed in other parts of the forum have left me unclear: is being LGBTQ+ considered URM independent of other factors...? I've never heard it treated as such.

No. It's a soft at best. It can make for a good diversity statement, or personal statement, sometimes. But very few LGBTQ+ folks will overperform their numbers simply by virtue of being LGBTQ+.SpookySalem92 wrote:Tangential question but the way it's addressed in other parts of the forum have left me unclear: is being LGBTQ+ considered URM independent of other factors...? And does this mean those who got an email are ahead of those who didn't one, in terms of receiving a JS2?
This would be good to know!
I also sent a LOCI and did not receive this e-mail. Have not received my confirmation of receipt of LOCI yet though

Re: Harvard Law c/o 2020 Waitlist
Had my phone call a little while ago. It essentially was to check in on if anything had changed and see what my plans are for the coming fall should I not get in. Told me to keep in touch with the admissions office which came across as though they would like me to send in a LOCI.

Oh, interesting. That sounds like a more typical js1b from my understanding, so maybe the whole process is moving more quickly this year. One can hope!

Any speculation on why they care what your plans are if you don't get in? (I think they like messing with their peer schools

Re: Harvard Law c/o 2020 Waitlist
Haha! While that may be rue I think they were feeling out the probability of an acceptance of an offer. They also asked about scholarships I had at the other uni and how much time I had spent looking at classes and programs offered there. Accepting a Harvard offer at face value is much easier if the offer you currently have is face value as well.CPA-->JD wrote:Any speculation on why they care what your plans are if you don't get in? The schools? About applicants - I doubt it. They are, after all, literally competing with each other.SpookySalem92 wrote:True or false: they all talk to each other anyway, right?
Otherwise, most definitely. They travel around the country together to give presentations and spend a lot of time together, so they might even be friends. This certainly made it sound that way: https://law.stanford.edu/2015/07/30/the ... s-no-more/

I don't think that's crazy at all. And really -- if you have a choice between poaching someone from Yale or someone from Michigan, who seems like more of a get? (no offense to anyone deposited at Michigan)CPA-->JD wrote:Any speculation on why they care what your plans are if you don't get in? (I think they like messing with their peer schools)

Kind of pointless to try to poach from Y though.notsonotorious wrote:I don't think that's crazy at all. They probably target SCCN people if they were to target at all.

That was just an extreme example... but actually, if you're set on Y, why stay on the H wait list? Anyway -- problems I'll never haveRigo wrote:Kind of pointless to try to poach from Y though.notsonotorious wrote:I don't think that's crazy at all. Re: Harvard Law c/o 2020 Waitlist
Had my JS1b this morning. They just wanted to know how my semester ended (I'm KJD) and if I would accept if admitted. I said I would, but also asked about financial aid, so I am worried I didn't come across as committed enough. For anyone else with an impending JS1B, I would think carefully about how you are going to ask/respond to questions beforehand.

I don't know why but I'm getting the strangest feeling, based on nothing, that things will happen soon. Maybe wishful thinking, but I can't stop thinking about the JS1b's people have been getting this week.

I'm hoping for positive news for you all soon!
Here I am, not even finalizing in my own choice, and yet I keep following what's happening here
p.s. if anyone is looking for a second set of eyes on an LOCI, I got you

Happy for everyone getting movement! Sending positive vibes, though I think this bodes poorly for those of us who have yet to hear a peep.

Not necessarily; I think for the pre-WL JS1 crowd it might not bode well to not be receiving a JS1b, but unless I'm missing something for JSnones I don't think there's any material change from last week (not being part of the first post-WL JS1 wave).sittykitty wrote:Happy for everyone getting movement!
