Iowa Law School c/o 2020 Applicants (2016-2017)
Hey all. I haven't seen a thread yet for 2020, so here we go....
Finally got my second LOR back and submitted my app on 11/09. Still waiting to hear from Iowa for the login to check my status. Who else wants to go to Iowa?

I wondered how long it would take for Iowa to pop up. I applied in early September and still no movement. I believe on my visit they said they begin to review in mid November. Does anyone know if this is about right?

What'd you think about living there? I was really surprised at how great it seemed for a smaller Midwest city. It had the college town feel with a great looking campus.acr wrote:Former Iowa undergrad here. Willing to answer any questions about the school in general or Iowa City.

Re: Iowa Law School c/o 2020 Applicants (2016-2017)
There were pros and cons. It really sucks between like Halloween and Spring Break because of the weather. It's horrendous, and walking to class (or anywhere) during those months can be awful. It's really frigid. My other complaint was the size of the town. I really enjoyed the downtown area while I was there, but after a year or two you start going to the same bars and the same restaurants and the same stores and kind of want "more" I guess. The good news is that it's a short drive (2 hours) to Des Moines (which actually has pretty good nightlife/social scene) and not a bad drive (4 hours) to Chicago. There are cool things going on in the city - especially during Fall during the football/tailgate season, but if you're not into college football or the tailgating scene then it won't mean anything to you. Also, some graduate students I met didn't like the undergrad presence. The school, and Iowa City in general, is basically dominated by the undergrads, and some grad students were ready to "move on" from that experience. I really think having a great time in Iowa City comes down to finding an awesome group of friends. If you can find a solid group of buddies to go downtown with and take advantage of what's available, then Iowa City's great.UltimateSplitter wrote:What'd you think about living there? How long after submitting my app via LSAC should I expect to see an email from UIowa for login and tracking purposes? I submitted via LSAC on the 9th.

Hi Hawkeye-
I applied 31 Oct, went complete 1 Nov, got my Hawk ID 2 Nov, and went under review 9 Nov.
FYSA, the HAWK ID I think doesn't come into play until you get a decision (I could be missing something). Your application tracker is going tell you more about what's going on with your app, especially when you go into review.
Also, I didn't get my app received/app tracker email and pword until 8 Nov. If you've applied somewhere else already, you'll have your username, and then if you want you can go to the tracking system via their website and get your password early. I'd wait at least until they send you a Hawk ID, if this happens to you too.
Cheers and good luck!

Hey, I'm sorry to say I actually don't know any specific figures that detail our placement in Chicago but I've heard that we do pretty well there. I know many of my classmates plan on working there. I think you can find that information somewhere online.carasrook wrote:Thanks for your availability! In regards to scholly info, unless you're an absolutely phenomenal candidate, in which case they'll offer you a scholly simultaneously with your admission letter, admissions at Iowa usually chooses to wait until January-early March to notify all admitted students if they've received a scholly and how much it is.

Congrats to those accepted! When did you all apply? I haven't heard anything, but I don't know if it was because I applied later.

Would this mean that there is some kind of wait stack of already-reviewed apps since I applied before you and they do rolling? I'm definitely a coin flip at most law schools.carasrook wrote:i applied at the very end of october
