Does anyone know if the office is closed already for the holidays? I've been traveling all week and got back today with a Wednesday voicemail from Yale asking me to call back... Called and left a voicemail and now dying

I can't imagine you haven't been admitted. Why else would they be calling on the very night that they started admitting people for the season?peterquinn wrote:Agh don't know if I can assume I haven't received an email or anything. Tfw you realize you have a few typos on one of the optional supplements that's what I deserve I guess for not being "too interested" when applying and doing it on a whim...

Same. I basically just took my resume and took a bit more space to elaborate but still kept the bullet point formatTAD wrote:I didn't. Did mine in bullet points just like a resume.prepies04 wrote:Congrats on everyone who got in already!!

Still working on my application, but based on my conversations with law advisers and friends who applied in previous cycles, you literally can choose whatever you want to write about. I've been told the important thing is that by the end of the statement you should have said something substantive about whatever you chose to write about (seems obvious, but I guess some people like to get creative with it which can end up backfiring). It can be a policy argument, something more reflective, etc. the topic really doesn't matter. The point of the exercise is for you to pick something that (presumably) means something to you and say something intelligent about it within a small space. Before anything you should take some time to really think about what it is you want to write about, and it's okay after taking some stabs at it to change your topic if you're just not feeling it.call-me-bubbles wrote:Sorry to beat a dead horse, but I'm really struggling to start my 250. The rest of my application is good to go, and my plan is to hit "submit" soon after the Dec. LSAT results come out, but I'm just feeling paralyzed by the gravity of the task. All things considered, I feel I have a strong application (relatively speaking -- URM, first-gen college, etc.), but I just don't know where to begin here. I've scoured the Yale website and all the usual go-to threads and sites for the 250.
Any tips from those of you who killed it this cycle and already got in? CONGRATULATIONS! I hope you guys are getting some much-deserved rest this holiday season!
Offering my two cents based on my limited experience; feel free to chime in if I'm way off base.

Re: Yale c/o 2020 Applicants (2016-2017)
I think the part about it being something substantive no matter your topic is pretty on point and probably the most important thing about the 250 in my eyes. Obviously the only experience I have is in writing my own 250, but for me what worked was choosing a topic that combined a sort of interesting policy argument while shedding light on a part of my me that wasn't really covered elsewhere in my application in either my PS or DS (a peculiar type of work experience I have as a social sciences major). By interweaving my own experience with the argument I was making, I was able to hit two birds with one stone, coming up with an interesting argument while also shedding more light on myself.armc808 wrote:Still working on my application, but based on my conversations with law advisers and friends who applied in previous cycles, you literally can choose whatever you want to write about. This is to say that if you're having a hard time thinking up a topic it may be useful to be a bit introspective and look at your application and see if there's something about you that the reader wouldn't get from what you have so far and using that to create an interesting argument.

Re: Yale c/o 2020 Applicants (2016-2017)
Alternatively, I went the complete opposite route as the posters above. My Yale 250 was probably the least bit substantive. Did not really talk about anything important. Went the creative route, but still kinda interwove it with aspects of my PS and DS and threw in some humor and a punchline at the end.call-me-bubbles wrote:Sorry to beat a dead horse, but I'm really struggling to start my 250. Interesting. Did you also submit a resume? If so, was the information redundant from what you wrote on the resume?TAD wrote:I didn't. Did mine in bullet points just like a resume.prepies04 wrote:Congrats on everyone who got in already!!

Re: Yale c/o 2020 Applicants (2016-2017)
Nah, I didn't submit a resume. Would have been absolutely redundant for me. My college activities was literally just a copy and paste of my resume to fit the format they required.prepies04 wrote:Interesting. Did you also submit a resume?
