Re: Yale c/o 2020 Applicants (2016-2017)
Slightly neurotic question, but here goes: after submitting all my apps, I received news that an article I submitted is going to be published next year in a peer-reviewed journal. I felt like this would help my chances, so I sent an updated resume to all of the schools I applied to on November 2nd. Every one responded with a "got it" email except Yale. I'd really like to make sure that whoever reviews my app sees the publication, but I don't want to come off as too desperate (and I can't call, since I'm living abroad); should I send another email or just hope that they updated my file and didn't tell me?

I had a very similar update and got a response from Yale within an hour, so I don't think it would hurt to confirm.Sisyphus9 wrote:Slightly neurotic question, but here goes: after submitting all my apps, I received news that an article I submitted is going to be published next year in a peer-reviewed journal. After weeks of procrastinating, days of poring over the 250, and hours of yawning over the college activities doc, finally submitted my app yesterday.
Spending those $90 was my optimistic act of the month.

Kaziende, who is the person in your pic? I may be an extraordinarily lame nerd but that person keeps reminding me of Alan Rusbridger, the Guardian's previous editor-in-chief: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alan_RusbridgerKaziende wrote:I'll help! I just realized that if last year's schedule is any indication, we might get the first wave on Saturday She won't be calling me but still

The application also opened two weeks later this year.KissMyAxe wrote:I was accepted through email, an email sent at 11 pm on a Sunday. They work really weird hours. You can never know when they'll call/email you. And it's possible they could do it this Saturday, but I'm harboring some doubts about that. I visited them 2-3 weeks ago just to chat and they said they hadn't started reading applications yet this year. I know the professors haven't received any applications yet. While it's entirely possible that Asha's picks could go out (she could do them in a couple afternoons), I'd expect them a little later.potterotter wrote:Baby Gaga wrote:

Welp. That's good intel, thanks Axe. Will be interesting to see. Maybe some of the nobel laureate lurkers among us will hear this weekend. Otherwise, I stick to my hunch that nothing good will come of 2016.

How long did it take y'all to get the "complete" email from Yale? It's been over two weeks for me

Re: Yale c/o 2020 Applicants (2016-2017)
I also have a lot of publications, and my résumé was 1.5 page with the second page devoted to the publications. Yes, the activities listed on my first page were mostly the same as my College Activities document. However, in my CV they are barely two sentences — covering the gist of what I did as if I were applying for a job — whereas in the College Activities doc I described each activity in a small paragraph, along with what I learnt from them or what stayed with me. This made it seem like I wasn't just recycling my CV but rather both documents seemed to support each other. At least, that's what I hope it comes off as. Who knows.bloomsday wrote:Those of you who submitted a resume, how long was it?
For all my other apps I submitted a two page version, but I know Yale prefers one page unless you have lots of publications. I do have lots of publications. But, I know I could get it down to a single page, especially if I cut some categories and most/all my college work and activities (which are in the activities list anyway)--my concern with that is that it makes the proportions/focus of my resume kind of bizarre. Like, it ends up being half publications, which isn't necessarily the best representation of what I do with my time. But if I make this more of a "job-style" single-page resume, which would be more like "selections" from each category, I end up repeating things which are on the activities lists and leaving other things out entirely, which seems like a silly use of my space. OR...I could just keep it at 1.5-2 pages.
I know I'm overthinking this.
TL;DR: I'm drowning in neuroticism, how long were your resumes?

I'd say definitely go for 2 pages if you have enough publications to merit that. They certainly won't hold it against you, and it allows you enough space to describe all of your work experience on the first page.bloomsday wrote:Those of you who submitted a resume, how long was it?

I wonder what the likelihood is that we'll get at least one acceptance wave before they break for the holidays at the end of next week
