Something weird's going on with my status checker. Every day since I got the thing over a month ago (including weekends), I've been checking it and it always updates to the current day sometime in the morning. Today, it's late at night, but my status checker is stuck on the previous day. Does this mean anything?

Our network has been garbage for the last week. Maybe it means they're fixing it?

My SO will being moving with me to law school. I'm worried that Ann Arbor won't be a great place for her.
Can someone speak about their experiences moving with a SO? Specifically, how is the job market for folks in Ann Arbor who aren't affiliated with the university? Also, we like small towns/college towns - but is there enough of the city removed from the university that a couple in their 30's won't feel swarmed by undergrads constantly?

Good point - she has a degree in biology with experience working in environmental testing labs as well as project management.snarfing wrote:it may be helpful to mention a general field your so works inEarlskies wrote:My SO will being moving with me to law school. Ann Arbor has a population of 120k which includes 45k students and 25k faculty/staff, so the vast majority of residents are UM affiliates.Earlskies wrote:My SO will being moving with me to law school. I'm worried that Ann Arbor won't be a great place for her.

Re: Michigan c/o 2020 applicants (2016-17)
Grew up in Michigan but not a current Mich student so take with a grain of salt - I don't think she should have much of an issue finding a job in the area, even if it's not directly in Ann Arbor. There are a lot of jobs in the metro Detroit area on the west side of the city that would be a relatively short commute from Ann Arbor, and I would think that her project management experience would make her an attractive job candidate for a variety of fields (how does she feel about working for one of the auto companies??)(not sure how many bio jobs there are! although Mich's hospital is ginormous and I don't know if she could find a position there).Earlskies wrote:Good point - she has a degree in biology with experience working in environmental testing labs as well as project management.snarfing wrote:it may be helpful to mention a general field your so works inEarlskies wrote:My SO will being moving with me to law school. Ann Arbor is a great city and I think has even more to offer for non-undergrads who have a bit of money. Really great dining options and lots of cool cultural things because of the university, and it is a really well developed city outside of the university. One of my friends lives near the Ypsilanti/Ann Arbor border and really likes it there. And again - Ann Arbor is pretty close to a lot of other cities filled with young professionals that make for a good night out or place to go to spend the day like Royal Oak, Birmingham, Ferndale, Southfield, etc. etc.

It's been super quiet here lately.
Just curious, is anyone visiting the school without going to ASW? I'm trying my best to make it for the second one, but not sure if I'll be able to.

I'm going to ASW, but visited a few weeks ago. I stalked around campus looking at the pretty buildings, took a tour of the law school, and talked to an admissions officer. I'd recommend visiting for the library alone, but I'm a sucker for aesthetics.
Had an early lunch at Panera while I was there and undergrads (with no food??) had taken every seat except a big, 8-person table. Ended up sitting there and 3-4 strangers in the same situation joined me. We just ate in silence looking at our phones. Was a weird way to start the day.

I'm sorry you had to lunch at Panera when there's so many more joyful foods to be found here! If any of you folks are visiting and need food recommendations (so as not to scare you away from Ann Arbor with bad food and undergrads), let me know! We're on winter break right now, so between catching up on Crim reading, I'll check TLS a bit more.Sarastro wrote:Right?StopLawying wrote:It's been super quiet here lately.

Oh, I guess I should make clear that it was a very positive visit overall. I think any decent-sized school has undergrads scurrying about. I just found it humorous on a day that I was a little nerve-wracked about talking to admissions.ChervonaKatya wrote:I'm sorry you had to lunch at Panera when there's so many more joyful foods to be found here! I'm starting to lose hope in Michigan. I haven't heard anything since I submitted mid-December (not sure when my completion date was because I wasn't obsessively checking my status checker until the past month or so). Should I send a statement of continued interest even though no decision has been made on my application?

Regarding the local alumni events, how many admitted students typically go to these? Since I'm unsure whether I can make it to ASW, I want to sign up for one, but if only alumni go I'm worried I'll feel out of place.

I'm going to the one in my area! From the email, it sounded like Dean Z was going to be there, so hopefully/probably they're trying to make it fun and useful for prospective students.treetops_rising wrote:I'm going to the Los Angeles one!StopLawying wrote:Regarding the local alumni events, how many admitted students typically go to these?
