I was just going to email them both a thank you once I found out the school I got into. I'm a couple years out of UG so it's how we've been communicating through the process.

im thinking a hand written note would be better though. A coffee gift card could be a nice gesture and not over stepping bounds or anything. I might do that (then again I'm poor so maybe not)

One of my LOR writers asked my friend about me pretty recently so I should probably send an update once I finally know where I'll matriculate.

"Thanks for that LOR in January 2014, I finally did it!"

Listen I agree that I just can't think of a hot dog being a sandwich, but if a philly cheese steak is considered a sandwich I just can't explain why a hot dog would not be considered as one.

This is what I did also. I was told giving gifts (except perhaps for a coffee cup or some other paraphernalia from your chosen LS) to professors is frowned upon.
It probably depends on your relationship with your LORs. I have a pretty informal relationship with mine and I know they'd absolutely love like a mug or something from where I'll be attending.
Mug from the school you choose is a great idea.

Neither of you went back and asked for an update to the letter? I got one written in 2015 for last year's cycle but when I knew I'd be applying this year I had him go back and update it

I graduated in May 2014, so there wasn't really a need for an update since I haven't seen her since.

So, obviously I will tell recs where I am going when I decide. How do y'all feel about how to tell other people? I am thinking of just buying the sweater of whatever school I decide on and start wearing it around. I feel like it might be douchey to make a facebook post or mass text friends you have talked to about it (besides close friends).

All right I'm ending this. Hot dog is not a sandwich the cylindrical shape of the meat gives it a unique distinction from sub sandwiches that used sliced and shredded meat or spreads like peanut butter and jelly. I will not stand for this attempt at a heathenish and absurd culinary grouping reminiscent of the redrawn borders of the middle east that have proved ruinous today.

Just change your education section on facebook or make a simple status.
"I'll be attending x school in the fall. Excited for this ~*~new chapter~*~"

It's not douchey at all. It's efficient.

I think facebook post is the way to go. It's not douchey at all, it's a major accomplishment. Just don't make it sound too douchey in the post but just thankful and humble.

I was thinking about getting sweaters from my school for the closest people, but then I realized that can get pricey pretty fast.

I don't think I'm going to make a separate facebook post just to announce it, but I'll probably add the school to the education section in my profile. I did go to an Ivy and many of my classmates/fb friends are also going to various top graduate programs so my fb audience may be more tolerant of douchery :P

Definitely can't wait to get a sweater though :D

People who wear the school sweatshirt at all times are way more likely to be attention whorey sad sacks anyways.

I wish Northwestern apparel looked better. I can't pull of purple.

I heard baby blue looks bomb on me though...

1. Taxing a buttered roll as a sandwich is rank tyranny
2. The obvious loophole in their wording is to construct a sandwich more elaborate than a six foot toasted sub, which is then free of all sandwich taxes

I recently made a facebook just to keep contact with my friends when I leave and to post my acceptances so my coworkers can see it. I don't make the posts douchey, but I want them to know because a lot of them are unmotivated to keep up with school or they are actually interested in where I will go. There's also that one manager who scoffed at the idea of me going to law school when I started working there, so I kind of want to rub it in his face lol.

Seriously? What are you waiting for?
