Really curious as to whether anyone has not gotten into a school because of the shit they do on here and adcomms somehow finding out its them.fips tedora wrote:adcoms are always checking this site. FYI

Well, when you make your LSN username the same as your TLS username, you're opening yourself up to easily being figured out by Adcoms.Mikey wrote:Really curious as to whether anyone has not gotten into a school because of the shit they do on here and adcomms somehow finding out its them.fips tedora wrote:adcoms are always checking this site. I used to worry about this, but then I realized that there's really nothing wrong with them knowing who you are so long as you aren't a jerk on here and keep in mind that adcoms may be able to figure out who you are when you're posting. Don't be a dick, don't be stupid, not that hard. If anything, figuring out my identity on here might be a good thing for my apps as I mostly just try to help other people looking for info.Mikey wrote:Really curious as to whether anyone has not gotten into a school because of the shit they do on here and adcomms somehow finding out its them.fips tedora wrote:adcoms are always checking this site. Yeah, I don't mind them knowing either. I've been posting under the assumption admissions folks read this forum.

Re: TLS c/o 2020 Applicants (welcome September waiTTTers)
I treat pretty much all social media (including this) the same way. I try not to say anything too controversial and keep pretty chill. I know a couple of people that have lost their jobs / been reprimanded for things they've said / posted on Facebook or Twitter. Its really just not worth it, even if you have an account that you think is anonymous.fips tedora wrote:Well, when you make your LSN username the same as your TLS username, you're opening yourself up to easily being figured out by Adcoms.Mikey wrote:Really curious as to whether anyone has not gotten into a school because of the shit they do on here and adcomms somehow finding out its them.fips tedora wrote:adcoms are always checking this site. I am always baffled by people who roll into certain threads and write "checking in lol I don't even wanna go here but I got a fee waiver this place is garbage"
Like, THAT or anything along those lines is a dumb thing to post
Oh also, just be a nice person and you're prob in the clear

Yeah I always cringe at those too. If an adcom connects the dots you're pretty much an immediate ding since you're basically stating that admitting you is a waste of their time.pretzeltime wrote:I am always baffled by people who roll into certain threads and write "checking in lol I don't even wanna go here but I got a fee waiver this place is garbage"

Yeah. Tbh, I probably wouldn't be THRILLED if adcoms knew this was my account, because it reveals me to be a neurotic person, but otherwise I wouldn't care too much. I think most people assume that people are more casual in these sorts of settings, so as long as you aren't an ass or an idiot you'll be fine.

These schools get 5000 applicants, do you think they have the time to search through all 500 of your posts to figure you out? Unless you have something really specific and memorable about you, I feel like this is pretty unlikely. however, in general you should be relatively anonymous on the internet and not give out details because there are some weird people out there.

That what's I would think too? I mean I'd imagine the adcomms at the top schools are incredibly busy people, and it seems like lurking that intensely would be extremely time-consuming? unless, as you say, you've got something specific, memorable, and easily accessible.Keilz wrote:These schools get 5000 applicants, do you think they have the time to search through all 500 of your posts to figure you out? Basically don't trash talk a school in its particular thread and I bet you'd be good.
Don't know why you would do that for a school you're looking get into, but who knows.
