Also thanks for all the advice. After visiting both schools I know exactly why everyone feels the way they do about the two schools. Dickinson is definitely the better of the two schools on all levels!ddoomm wrote:Good stuff! See you on August 15th!kwabedi wrote:After visiting both schools in two days I have decided on Carlisle! Re: Penn State Dickinson and Penn State Law
Both schools have now released their "separate" 2015 employment data and they are pretty comparable.
Dickinson edges UP out in FTLT bar passage required jobs, but that most likely has to do with the small class size.

According to their latest quarterly statement, the two law schools are going to merge into one with the surviving school being determined on or before August 3rd. It really doesn't matter which one you pick, because on August 3rd they'll be the same school.

YES! I like your wording! The "surviving school" makes it sound like some sort of final boss battle, only one will leave the room alivejrass wrote:According to their latest quarterly statement, the two law schools are going to merge into one with the surviving school being determined on or before August 3rd. What a joke! Merging into one after a mere one year's splitting into two accredited schools?jrass wrote:According to their latest quarterly statement, the two law schools are going to merge into one with the surviving school being determined on or before August 3rd. My guess is yes. It depends how many people accept/decline their offers I think. They will get back to you pretty quickly.

I had a bigger offer from Penn State Law and wrote them a negotiation letter. I used the forum in here on negotiations for advice on how to drafts the letter.yenisey wrote:How did you accomplish it? Re: Penn State Dickinson and Penn State Law
over the last few weeks, I was able to negotiate up from $25,000/year to a full ride (maybe a living stipend as well? apparently I'm a "strong candidate" for one, whatever that means). if anyone out there is wondering whether to give negotiating a shot-- it never hurts to ask.

Does anyone know anything about the waitlist prospects for the University Park campus?

I would really advise against going to Penn State off the waitlist. Unless for some ungodly reason you get A TON of scholarship money off the waitlist.DareDreamer23 wrote:Does anyone know anything about the waitlist prospects for the University Park campus?

I know its not ranked very high, but I assume the employment prospects for a job in Philly would be good? The alumni network is really good or so I have heard.Nachoo2019 wrote:I would really advise against going to Penn State off the waitlist. Re: Penn State Dickinson and Penn State Law
I am going to assume we are still talking about University Park here. For a relatively new school the UP campus had decent employment statistics. The only problem is that without any scholarship money (which is the most likely situation when accepted off the WL) you will be paying roughly $200,000+ for your degree. This is absolutely not worth it. Not even close.DareDreamer23 wrote:I know its not ranked very high, but I assume the employment prospects for a job in Philly would be good? Also, the UP school has only been its own school for a couple years now so it does not have the strong alumni network that is advertised. 600,000+ undergrad alumni does not translate to legal employment. The reason I chose Dickinson is because after some research/talking to people on this forum/looking at LinkedIn I realized that the alumni in hiring positions were from Dickinson and a lot of them graduated from Dickinson before it was even affiliated with Penn State. This means that Dickinson students may have a small advantage when it comes to alumni.
Lastly, from what I have been seeing, the job prospects in Philly are not "good" from either PSU or Dickinson. Yes, people get jobs in Philly from both schools, but it is not a guarantee by any means. Philly jobs are going to get filled by UPenn----> other T-14 schools------>Temple/Nova----->> Dickinson/Drexel/Penn State UP grads in that order. It is entirely possible, but there will be a ton of competition.
I am an 0L so all of this is what I have gathered from TLS, visiting both schools, and other research. I do not have first hand knowledge... yet.

Re: Penn State Dickinson and Penn State Law
I do have firsthand knowledge.
The job prospects in Philly from either campus are atrocious, but there may be a tiny advantage to Dickinson over UP because you have a better shot of finding that one alumni in a haystack who might be able and willing to help you.
I personally see absolutely no rational reason ANYONE would choose to go to UP, free or not, but I am admittedly biased.
